    1992 window trim

Ok so I just painted my car it looks good for my first time. I'll post pics in just a bit. But the issue I'm having is the windshield and the rear window trim. I broke some of the clips and not really sure on how to get it back on. I got the trim above the door windows on and all the just front and rear chrome is the issue. Do glass shops have those clips in stock. And do you think they would just install it for me. Or how do these clips go off and come on so I can order new ones.

Edit:I know this should be in appearance. Just not sure of the sub category I should of chose and figured this is kind of a tech question.

I've recently had to remove the rear window (i.e. rear 'windscreen') trim in order to do some light rust repairs around the window (moisture under the paint, paint lifting due to 'surface' rust). Those clips at the base of the window are a bitch to get off. I made the special tool as per detailed in a manual I downloaded, which doesn't work, or even come close to it. In the end I just had to prise them hard with a screwdriver blade. Some came off intact, two broke.

My trim is still off, I'm stalled at the stage where there are pink bog spots waiting to be sanded and painted (when I have the time). I haven't as yet tried to source new clips, so don't know how available or not they may be. If they're unavailable I'm thinking it would be possible to glue some plates over the holes in the chassis, and use self tappers screwed into the plates. To do this would involve cutting any remnant of the locking part of the broken clip away to just leave a flat 'tab' with the original hole still in it.

Note that the clips appear as if they will slide out of the trim metal, but it may be a little tricky as the rubber flap thing (that hides the attachment screw heads and keeps water off them) also slides in the trim metal. It may be necessary to 'walk' these components out of the metal trim strip, i.e. move each clip a few millimetres until each one is prevented from moving further due to the rubber strip, then move the rubber strip until the clips prevent the rubber strip from moving any further, then move all the clips a few millimetres, then move the strip etc...

I had the OEM number before. You can get them from Majestic Honda. They are not too spendy and are worth replacing all of them.

I got the very bottom back ones all new. I just can't find any of the others like for the sides. And the front windshield ones as well.

          Glass installation shops have them.

Glad to see you back on here josh. How much do you think the shop will charge me to just install the front and rear trim?

Buddy's in Brookline Mo charged me $172.50 for glass and windshield installation. The glass was $70ish if I recall for my 93 sedan but I get a slight deal on the glass.

The shops do carry most of the trim and clips. If you come down to Springfield much try and get a hold of Fannin Auto Glass and ask for John. That's my uncle and he has worked there for over 30 years. Tell him his nephew Josh sent you. He won't get you any deals but he will give you the best help you can find. If they have it or can get it he will be able to get it to you.

They also do not do installations but they have all types of clips. It might be handy to have a Honda part number for the clips on hand when you call.

They might not have those exact clips but they will have a substitute or another method.

Buddy's just glued the trim to the rest of the urethane for the windshield without using any clips. I didn't like it but no one but me could tell.

If you choose to go that route get you a tube of Beta Seal U428 and the tube fits right in a normal cocking gun. But once you open a tube it's really hard to keep it air tight enough to not harden up on you and ruin the rest of the tube.

              Hope this helps.

Or you could get someone that specializes in windshield installation if you wanted to have someone else do it.

And yeah, I have been back for a while now. A couple months I guess. I came back with a 5 speed swap DIY so that was cool.
