star smog in california .

hello once again . i finely got the long dreaded smog papers from dmv in the mail . now they say that i have to do star smog testing and im wondering what is need for this . i know the usel tune up oil change and stuff like that with the old smog but what else with this star ? i have also herd a lot of bad stuff about it not liking our cars to much .

the basic premise of the star system is to get you to get rid of your old car and lease a brand new car.

if it is not as successful as planned there is legislation being readied to make all model year 2000 and older cars illegal to own in Comradeifornia. they will be labeled as gross polluters

well thats not cool because a lot of people cant afford a new car or even a pre own 2009 . what can i doe to make sure my car is going to pass . i already take it to the smog ref every time i smog it .

I passed mine no problems after i bought it, its a 93 SE coupe all stock, never checked it before the smog and still passed, the guy told me the start its just an extra test they do in the hoses in your engine bay for pressure and stuff

According to my paperwork my car failed 12 times since it's tags in 2012. I found out my cat was trashed ... Pulled it from my white accord and it passed a little high but within the limits I just ran chevron, new oil , new nkg plugs and done deal. Good luck

Clean your egr valve, make sure your catalytic converter is in working condition, drive around for a while before going to test so that the cat is warmed up and working efficiently.

Also, make sure you don't have any cels.

i do have a exhaust leak before the cat and on top of the muffler . the flex pipe is broken and a massive hole in the muffler from flying off the curb .

It's a shame were on the opposite side of the country I have basically brand new headers and a flex pipe sitting in my shed. With a gasket. You could've had them.

would shipping cost to much . they would also half to be cali smog legal .

They will also pressurize the fuel lines looking for leaks.
So replace your gas cap if it is old and check the tubes leading to the charcoal canister for leaks.
Ideally you'd also check the tube from the gas tank, but those are harder to pre-emptively fix.
