    coolant temp switch and sensor

    Hey guys,

    in my previous thread I was talking about my bad fuel economy and O2 sensor I am having, reading more into eco modding forums, there was a lot of emphasis on temperature affecting MPG

    So I would like to know what should be the temperature of OEM ECT Sensor and Fan Switch A & B for the fans to kick on. I am saying this because I replaced the Fan Switches that were burned on my original F22A4 that I ruined, 2 years ago.

    They do have temp markings on them but would like to know what would be those of the OEM ?! maybe it will help me fix my mpg and other cooling problems.

    Thanks

    ECT A: ON above 93C

    ECT B: ON above 106C

    How much does engine temp affect economy? Do you have a link?

      I don't have a specific link, but there are many eco forums discussing it, here's an example of what I am reading.

      are the values you provided, OEM ?! and what about the TW sensor ( cooling sensor )

      Damn the market is swarming with fake products, or to be more righteous, off-spec products.

        Straight out of the service manual

        TW sensor? Is that the temperature sending sensor?

          no it isn't the needle that shows on the dash board, but the one next to it, the ones you gave me are the fan switches. also would like to know the OEM thermostat rating marked on it if possible.

              The thermostat specifications:
              Lift height: above 8.0mm
              Starts opening: 76-80C
              Fully Open: 90C

              Ahh the tw sensor is the thermistor.

              ECT resistances

              56C: 142 Ohms
              85-100C : 49-32 Ohms

                So now I have the Thermostat OEM temperarture rating,
                Starts opening: 76-80C
                Fully Open: 90C
                ====================
                ECT A: ON above 93C
                ====================
                ECT B: ON above 106C
                ====================
                The TW sensor,the one under the Dizzy next to the temp sending unit, it has a 2 wires connector; I still need the OEM rated temperature for it and I'd be on my way to get them.

                After market stuff most of the time are not close to oem ratings and this affects the fuel economy of CB7, may not be important for people with speed and race in mind, but definitely important for me and fuel economy tests.

                Thanks

                  Ok let's clear this up. The 2 wire sensor under the dizzy is the ECT and he provided those specs. The single wire is the coolant temp sending unit, which goes to the dash.

                    I'm not a scientist but can tell you when my thermostat was stuck open for a few months a couple years ago I got 25-26mpgs. Now throughout ohio winter I get 29-30 and through summer it's more like 32-33.Not a huge difference but noticeable like 20,30,40 more miles per fill up. I reset my trip meter every fill up on all my cars.
                    ......father in law has it back again. Time to shine

                      Dj Endaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa !!! long time no see !! where have you been ?!

                      well there's one ECT sensor under the Dizzy but I think he meant the fan switches as he provided two values A and B, maybe he took the fan switches for ECTs.

                      What I am missing is only the OEM spec for the one under the dizzy, does it have a writing on it ?! or it is a variable resistor that keeps feeding the ECU for temperature fluctuations ?

                        This is what I am aiming for because I already replaced the thermostat with an OEM thermostat, but I want to be sure that other sensors are within spec.

                          There are two fan/ECT switches:
                          A and B

                          Switch A is under the distributor and B is on the water neck.

                          The fan switch and ECT switch are the same thing.

                            what about the one near the thermostat housing then ? as far as I know ( the guide ) it is one of the fan switches not the one under the dizzy

                              Pictures help. Are you talking about the one to the left of where the arrow is pointing to the ECT Sending Unit?
