Ok so a week ago my new 92 accord LX coupe was running and shifting fine. Then one day when putting the car in 4th I could hear the car in gear sort of. I didn't think much of it. Then a few days later I could hear the car in 2nd gear, kinda like the sound it makes in reverse but not as loud. Then it stopped. Upon going to work one morning when engaging my clutch and letting it back up it stuck half way. So it pulled it up with my foot and kept driving. All was well. Now it's hard for my car to go into 2nd, I have to push the clutch to remove it from 1st, release it, then engage it again to put it in 2nd if it'll even go. Sometimes I have to skip it and go to 3rd. It doesn't grind it just doesn't go. When it goes it feels kinda notchy (if that's even a word, lol) Also when selecting other gears say going to 3rd and I press the clutch i grinds as if the clutch didn't even engage or barely engaged. I'm guessing the slave cylinder is going bad. The fluid is kinda dirty and I know when I operate the fork by hand it's kinda soft and doesn't feel as firm as I believe it should. I need to check the gear oil also, maybe it's that or both. I also can shift the car pretty easy from under the hood from where the cables attach to the tranny. Welp that's about it. Any suggestions or experience will help.

sounds like you have a few things going on, but start with replacing the clutch master and slave cylinders. It sounds like one is going out, and they are so cheap, its just better to replace them both at the same time. A hint for the slave cylinder, pulling the radiator makes it a LOT easier to get to.
If you replace those and still find some symptoms, hope it's your clutch or flywheel. Otherwise your syncros might need to be replaced.

my thoughts exactly....
thanks for the quick response. I'll start with what you suggested. Oh do you know if they still make syncromesh tranny fluid? Should I try it? I remember reading about it a while back but can't remember if it was for manuals or auto, lol. I know GM made some and Pennzoil. Thanks again.Mr. $3 Dollahz Himself!

Do the slave cyl. first. Its about 8 bucks for a brand new one at autozone. If that doesn't fix it then do the clutch master cyl.
You don't need to remove your radiator, just use a boxend wrench and break the 12mm bolts free.
That took care of my spongy feeling clutch pedal on my 250k mile DD and restored the firm pedal feel.
I would also drain and refill your tranny fluid with ONLY Honda MTF. All the other stuff either is too thick (Redline MTL) and will cause your bearings to go bad. I did this in my old transmission and a month later it whined in every gear.
The GM syncromesh friction modified will stain your case a dark grey color. Plus its about 20 bucks a quart. Honda stuff is the way to go, about 6 bucks a quart and made for the tranny.

And a master cylinder is only like 20 bucks, and you only need to bleed it once. I only suggested pulling the radiator because I had a really hard time getting my hand down behind the fan shroud.

thanks again from both of yal
I love this forum. I've been up here for like 10 years and I'm on my 11th CB7 I'll get a brand new slave cylinder today and change the gear oil with Honda MTF, I hope it isn't to high, lol. 3 quarts right? And I'm gonna need a piece of tubing right? It's weird filling that thing from the side, lol. This morning 3rd gear was whining like a stray hungry cat. Thanks again.Last edited by 1991acclude; 12-07-2013, 10:08 AM.Mr. $3 Dollahz Himself!

alrighty.....
so I drove it again for work one more night (75 miles) and man when I got home I could only select like 3 gears easily; the rest had to be selected through double clutching and force, lol. Poor cb7 And since it was Sunday today I couldn't get honda MTF so I had to do something asap. So I put one Pennzoil syncromesh and 1 1/2 Advance Auto Gear Oil 80-90w I think. (I know ) I went to drain it and like to drops came out, smh. Put the drain plug back in and opened the fill spot. Put the oil in and man by the 3rd quart like not even half way through began to run out all over the ground, lol. SO after reinstalling the fill bolt I took her for a test drive lil notchy at first and after 5 mins, smooth as a baby's bottom. Thanks again for all the help. Now I know the symptoms of low gear oil.Mr. $3 Dollahz Himself!

technically takes 1.8 qts, but I've got this nifty harbor freight funnel with a long tube that allows me to get it pretty close to that amount.

funnel?
Man I bought the $5 Advance auto one and had to put a small pair of vice grips on the 90^ degree bend in the plastic tube to hold it so the oil would go in. Took a while but I got it in, lol. I forgot to turn the bottom to allow it to flow and I did't want to pull it out of the whole trying to turn it, lol man it was crazy. And doing it in 40 degree weather didn't make it any better. But I had to do what I had to do.Mr. $3 Dollahz Himself!
