You will definitely need more cooling. A tranny cooler too.

They can be, as long as they lock into gear correctly. In a CB hitting the sport button would help while towing. Autos that shift constantly are terrible for towing though.

Well sure, how frequently the work load can be duplicated matters even more when you add an extra load such as an incline. However, the duplicated process is only as effective as the original process. The torque is what matters with moving objects. If you struggle to make enough torque from square one, it doesn't really matter how efficient the engine is at duplicating that process. In this scenario, the initial torque that the engine makes is the issue/opportunity.

That and gearing. An H22 tranny help this guy out.

Either way, I think cooling system and brake upgrades are where I would start. The CB is going to pull a couple scooters no problemo. Its just not going to be happy about it.

F23A1 bolted to a shorter geared tranny. Mill the head to bump the compression a bit. Bolt ons and a tune should net you plenty of torque off-idle.

If its an automatic, bigass tranny cooler and a better fluid like Valvoline Maxlife dex/merc. And change it out more often.

More importantly though: the braking system. Stopping the load is more important than getting it moving.

I think a small v6 or v8 and rwd conversion would be best for torque/towing.

If you are trying to build a bit more torque for towing you can always kill two bird with one stone by doing a simple bottome end clean up like a bump hione, new rings, bearings gaskets and to increase the torque you can do a simple pocket port with a good valve job. The correct valvejob can increase horsepower and torque with out raising your power band. After you are done doing that you can add a simple fuel pressure regulator and a SAFC to dial it in. You will increase your towing capabilities and have a reliable engine. On the next step look into atleast a new cooling system brakes and lubrication. That will make you and your CB very happy towers.

SAFC is for tuning in the early 2000's. Nowadays, for SAFC money he could just buy a chipped ecu and actually tune the car.

And a "pocket port" job is just as likely to cause problems as generate more HP/TQ if done incorrectly.

For the OP's goals he could very easily mill the head 0.02" (approx. 9.2:1), swap in the A6 cam, H23 intake and throttle body all while running a PT6 ECU. That would give him his added tq and would work just fine on the stock ECU.

Before all of this I would suggest finding out the health of your engine. Compression test and ignition component tests. If your engine is healthy you can go from there. if it is a bit week, you could be better off swapping or rebuilding the bottom end of the engine.

As far as the trans goes. I love towing with my MT. I would opt for a flush of the old fluid in there and go with a 100% synthetic 10w30. I used AMSOil for years and it works wonders.

In my experience, leakdown tests are more reliable than compression tests. For example, the compression test results on my last engine seemed pretty good - high and consistent from cylinder to cylinder - but the leakdown test clearly identified some leakage starting past the piston rings.

honestly, how much money are you saving by building an engine for towing with your accord, vs using your truck for heavier loads?

Well it would depend on how much I spent and how much towing I did. But it is much better using the car for the small stuff, than my tank of a truck.

Plus, I've always been a Honda enthusiast, so I don't look at it as "loosing money" There is a fun factor in it for me doing something like this.
