Ignition switch problem

So as not to confuse everybody in Joey's thread.

Recently I have noticed. When I turn the key. Sometimes it is hard to turn like it doesn't want to, then I wiggle the key and it turn. (this I believe is the tumbler and I think a cleaning should fix this. Hopefully)

The second problem is the clicks you get when you turn the key are gone. Its like you turn it but don't feel the click for acc or the ignition click. Then when you turn the key to start. It gets stuck on start and I have to manually turn the key back. Which usually results in me turning the car off.

Is this the lock cylinder or the ignition switch. First thought was the lock cylinder but after reading some I'm not sure.


Car runs fine doesn't shut off or anything like that.

Same thing happened to my dads 91 Integra . I had to replace the tumblr and ignition switch.

I believe the switch is located on the rear of the lock cylinder. When I turn the key and turn it too far, it gets stuck in start.

The clicks come from the switch not the tumbler

I did try and not turn it as far and it didn't stick. Still doesn't have the definate clicks. But it doesn't stick.

I will look into a new switch. Kind of pisses me off. I got this part directly from my honda dealer here. Paid, what I think is too much. So I wouldn't have to worry about this again. The first one lasted about 17 years, this one about 2.

It is more likely the lock mechanism. If it is still an original key, the key is worn, the tumblers are worn, and things don't line up like they used to. I had a problem for a few days with my 90 not being able to get it back from the start position. I finally figured out that if I lifted the key, it released back to the run position, but now it works OK again.

I suggest that you have a Honda dealer cut you a new key (not make a copy of your worn key) and try that. You might also remove, clean, and lubricate the existing lock assembly.
