You basically have to take the sellers word for it.
I think the newer p and t series trannys are supposed to be a little stronger(built) than the m series trannys. I read that somewhere.
I recently picked up a p2t4 and I plan to get an mfactory LSD. I believe the mfactory, quaife and wavertec are supposed to be stronger than the JDM LSD.
You can get any F or H tranny It doesn't have to be a prelude h22 or accord sir tranny.
Another thought is since you already have a h22 tranny, Carbon syncrotech synchros and a mfactory LSD, wold run you $850 and arguably stronger than the JDM LSD.

But M2A4 and M2B4 trannies are notorious for either a 3rd or 5th gear grinding and popping out. So, take it from someone who's experienced both....I would replace the 3rd gear and 5th gear syncros and inspect the syncro sleeves for wear.
If they have any wear, replace it because it will lead to issues down the road.
My used M2A4 I bought off craigslist for 100 bucks immediately had a 3rd gear grind which lead to a popping out and finally it started whining in every gear.
My imported M2B4 I bought in Anaheim, CA for 650 was fine for 3 months, but then developed a 5th gear grinding that used to only happen at high rpms, but then happened more frequently at lower rpms then finally happened all the time. That eventually got worse and then 5th gear started popping out all the time.
I rebuilt that last M2B4 with an F22 5th gear and new syncro w/ sleeve set and new countershaft and mainshaft bearings and its been smooth sailing with no issues for over a year and a half now.
To be safe and rule everything out, just replace the mainshaft and countershaft bearings for slop and the 3rd and 5th gear syncros and sleeves if needed. The best way to prevent all that crap I went through from happening is to open it up and look inside before you install it into your car.
To rebuild I think I paid the guy 200 + parts. It was worth it too since when he put in that F22 5th gear, he had to shim some parts...only experienced tranny people know how to do this, you can't just put that F22 5th gear in.
But good luck with everything. Oh and ONLY use Honda MTF. Don't use anything else.

All F and H series manual transmissions are identical except for gear ratios and the presence of LSD. It's possible that some later models had better syncros, but I have never seen anyone state this.
The one exception is the M2U4 transmission from the Prelude SH. This transmission was part of the 4-wheel steering system in the SH and is completely different and will not bolt in.
LSD transmissions were never sold in the US. You can get imported ones from Japan (and possible Europe?). Transmission model numbers with LSD are:
M2B4
M2Z4
T2T4
T2W4
The M2B4 and T2T4 used slightly taller 5th gear rations: 0.787 compared to 0.812 for the other two transmissions.
As Losiracer2 says, you can install an F22 5th gear in a Prelude transmission, but it has to be shimmed. 3rd-5th gear were designed as a set and the Accord 5th gear is a bit wider than the Prelude 5th gear. A lot of people have done the 5th gear swap, but when I worked for Honda 10 years ago, the powertrain experts advised against shaving the Accord 5th gear, as the gears are case hardened.
