How to hook up IAB's Properly

Hey guys. I know this has to be somewhere but I can't find it. Where is the guide on how to do this properly?

You can find it in any Honda manual that the chassis uses a B18C, F22A6, H22A or H23A engine.

It's a pretty simple setup and the diagrams are easy enough to find!

You need a PT6, the black box and a few other components. Do you want to hook up the entire system correctly? I can take photos of the differences from a PT3 car to a PT6 car just in physical components.

There are actually two vacuum controlled valves to hook up to do it correctly, one in the runners and one on the air intake plumbing.

I also recommend getting a vacuum control box from a PT6 vehicle.

But if I have the H23 manifold won't I need the parts from the H23 or are the F22A6 parts the same?

Yes, I want to hook it up correctly. What I know so far is I have to get the black box, the spacer with the butterflies still on it and also the actuator, the solenoid on the black box with its plug, an ECU pin so I can wire in one wire to the P17 pin, then I have to wire in the other wire from the IAB solenoid to a "hot" source. Vacuum lines are not hard its the wiring, and I just thought that there was a guide on how to do this already, guess not. Pics would help if you got em.

          Bench test IAB's

          ^^Maybe this thread will help.

The IABs hook up to pin a17 if I remember correctly, and the ecu grounds it when it wants it open. Where you tap power is to your preference. If you goto the technical section there is a sticky with electrical diagrams that should show where it gets power when installed from the factory.

Yeah I get it now, one wire on the IAB's goes to power (splice into the IACV wire) and one goes to the ECU. My only concern is at the harness side, will I have to de-pin the harness where the a17 pin is or will the pin already be removed since my harness and ECU doesn't have IAB's? Which would mean all I would have to do is add a pin from another harness then wire her up. Am I getting this right?

Another thing, can I use this diagram even if its from a civic, I found it on this site (sorry for the big pic). Is the A17 pin in the same exact place on the A6 ecu as this ecu? So there's not supposed to be a wire or a pin in my harness I just have to add it?

Yes, you will have to remove a pin from another harness to add to the connector for the ecu since your car did not come with IAB's.

I prefer this schematic as it is more detailed/complete:

Alright, so the ecu plug I have in my car has all the spaces needed for the pin, I don't have to wire in a new plug just a pin... so there is just an empty empty space on my current ecu plug waiting for me to wire the iab's into?

Uhhh, I just looked and my harness already has a pink wire in the place where the IAB's are. I am having problems removing the wire as well. What do I do now?

                      Edit:

I'm thinking what I need to do is just cut off the pink wire already inside the harness plug (the one I enlarged and got part of a plastic tooth pic stuck in) and solder the wire up... But what was that pink wire being used for to begin with?! I don't want to do it just yet.

Could it be possible I am reading it upside down?

This is how I am reading it:

A, on the top, 5 over to the left. That is the A17 pin correct? But there's a pink wire already there!

                      EDit:

I even double checked in the manual and the A17 pin is right where I think it is... With a pink and blue wire! My car is an LX 91' wagon automatic (5 speed swapped). What is the pink wire for does it have something to do with the automatic transmission?

Okay, just so you guys don't think i'm a troll or mechanically challenged, here is the diagram straight from the horses mouth.

Honda manual plug diagram for 91' Accord:

It says A17 has a Pink/Blue wire ???:thud:

I thought it was supposed to be empty?

And it says A10 is Empty... This is where I put my pin thinking it was A17... I was wrong.

Would there be any danger in cutting the pink/blue wire and splicing in the IAB's wire? I feel like the only one who has had to deal with this, everyone says there's no wire there but I have a wire.

Bringing this thread up again because I still can't get them to work right.
I did manage to get the solenoid and vac box to close the iabs on their own, I did this by grounding them manually instead of having the ecu ground them. They worked that way but they weren't grounding right. So I found out it was the pin I had connected to the ecu that was at fault and I replaced that. Now when I try to ground the iabs with power nothing happens and the iabs dont close at all because its already grounded to the ecu (I suppose), and I know it had power... I'm confused by this. I think what is wrong now is that I have the wrong pin changed out as A17. That slot is supposed to be empty but there was a pink/blue wire there which I removed and actually cut out. I ended up reading in my 91 Honda manual that the pink/blue wire is actually for the intake solenoid. This makes no sense. Can someone show me where the empty spot is on the wiring harness because I can't find pin A17 - which is supposed to be empty but its not. Is it possible my harness is different than most others?
What makes no sense is that there's a pink/blue wire in the place of A17 when its supposed to be empty. At least I think its A17. Is it because I have a wagon is the wiring not the same? Its a 91' LX wagon. If someone could help me that'd be great, Thanks.

That spot should be empty, if it's not, someone added it or swapped harnesses. I wired my power source to a fuse in the fusebox, and the other wire to pin A17, no issues.

Thanks fer yer help but why does the manual say that a pink/blue wire is at A17? Which there is on my wiring harness.
