    Sputtering Engine Idle

My car develops a sputtering idle after about 3 miles of driving or enough to get the cooling fans to turn on. When it starts to sputter the CEL comes on. This all started about 2 months ago but I have not driven long enough for this to show up until today when my mom took it to work.

So here is all of the problems that are wrong with my engine that I think could be related.
    1) The clutch is going out, I am not sure if it is the hydraulics and the clutch is still engaged with the pedal pressed down and causes the sputtering.
    2) I have had the code for the MAP sensor go off and got a call from my mom who has my car at the moment call me to tell me it started sputtering and the CEL came on, could be a different code or the same, will not know until she is home to check.

Just to give some side notes.
It has been hotter and dustier than usual the past 3 months and that is when it started.
When I did the brake pads, when pushing in the piston some fluid came out the top of the reservoir (cap closed) of the brakes, probably not related but I don't know.
I also did a slipping clutch test where I put it into 2nd gear and it conked our right away so it could still be a good clutch, but the car shakes occasionally when driving 30+-.
Today was the first time the car has been driven more than 5 miles for one trip.

Any ideas what could cause this idle sputtering?

Called Mom to get more info, this sputtering happened at 5th gear on the highway. Just more info.

Probably just what the car is telling you is wrong.

Check MAP sensor connections, if everything looks good replace it with a good or known working unit.

Id say the reason it takes 3 minutes or so is the ECU is going into closed loop mode when at normal operating temperature. From my understanding the ECU does not use input from the MAP sensor until closed loop mode/normal operating temperature is achieved.

3 Miles, but that makes sense. Is going into closed loop normal?

Yes. Closed and Open loop modes are incorporated in all factory ECUs that I know of.

Make sure you check all the connections to the MAP sensor before you go throwing parts at it.

              May just be something loose.

Car is back got a 5 then followed by a 40, same thing I got few months ago. So MAP (5), and what is 40? So my mom though she heard a misfire when the stuttering started on the highway.

Check and confirm the light blinks again. There is no 40 code.

Turned out to be code 43, I guess the paper clip fell out. So 5 and 43 (Fuel Supply System).

Fix the MAP sensor issue first. May get rid of both of them. If the code 43 sticks around after I'd start checking the O2 sensor.

Will do. I will also check any connection in the black box tonight.
