Been thinking about doing this. So do lift the car and loose the drain bolt then lower the car and take the plug out so it drains as much as it can ?

From what I hear, it's pretty much like changing oil. I've never actually changed ATF fluid myself but I would imagine it's close, if not the same process.

That's exactly what I do (MT or AT), tip the car back down just before it'll start to touch the drain pan. The pitch will def. help get more out.

Keep in mind that you are only changing 2.5 of 6 quarts in the transmission (about 58% is still "old"). If you have no idea how long it has been in there, do a drain and refill, drive it around the block, do another drain and refill (now 34% of fluid is "old"), and repeat once more (now 20% of the fluid is "old"). I know that much fluid is expensive, but a transmission rebuild/replacement is even more expensive. I have seen a video somewhere of tapping into the cooler line(s) to allow the tranmission to pump out the older fluid as you fill with new, but I haven't tried it.

Objective data? Go search all the past threads about transmission issues...almost always its related to not using the factory recommended Honda ATF.

Do what you want with your car. I'm just offering advice.

I mean no offence by this but checking threads is not objective data. I am also on a toyota forum where the guys there were going through the same thing and really after like 6 pages things were still inconclusive. So I guess I am scheptical that's all really.

Honda recommended ATF for our Accords is DEXRON II as stated in the link I posted on this thread as well as within the service manual.

                Automatic Transmission Fluid
                DEXRON II ATF
                - 2.5 QTS for drain and fill.
                - 6.3 QTS for overhauled transmission.
I don't see much benefit to be gained with use of DW-1 on our cars if DEXRON II suffice the purpose.

I drive M/T Accord so I would stop here.
