    serious power loss

    Hi,

I posted this in the swap section because I'm driving an H22 accord, but maybe you guys could help me understand my problem.

In an attempt to fix some CELs (VSS/KS/EGR/VTEC OIL), I swaped the plugs from VSS/EGR (thinking maybe they could be backwards, because I'm using my old F22 EGR that I know was perfectly good). Then I go into the car and unplug the D plug from the ECU and push all the pins in, to make sure they were making connection to the ECU (For KS and VTEC OIL). Then I pulled the 7.5AMP backup fuse and let the car sit for a minute to clear the CEL from the computer.

Then something wierd happend, when i turned the car into on, but no started the motor yet, the CEL came on and stayed on. Usually I can drive the car for about 5-10 minutes before the light comes on just in the inherint nature of the cel's i'm having. I said...hummm, and desided to test drive it anyway to see if my VSS would work. Imediently I noticed a horrible power loss. It's extreamly sluggish, I guess I should mention that I drive a 5spd now so it's not the TCU. I would even let the motor rev up to 6,500 RPM and NO pull whatso ever. It drives slower than the old F22a4.

So i stopped and pulled over. Swap the VSS/EGR plugs back to the way I had them, and then pulled the backup fuse to reset the ECU. Again, when I turned the car on, but not start the motor, the CEL came on and stayed on and I continued to experience this horrible power loss. It drives like my friends 95HP mitsu mirage.

When I got it home, I pulled the backup fuse, then pulled out the D plug and pushed it back in, this time pulling the backup fuse first. Then I put the backup fuse back in. Now the car's CEL doesn't imidently come on but I'm still pulling 4 cels and experiening HORRIBLE power loss.

    Does anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks a bunch.

PS. I've checked all my plugs, they are snug.

What are the four cels? Go back and check all the wiring going to the ecu not just the D plug.

      the cels are:

      12/17/22/23/36

VSS, EGR, VTEC OIL, KS, <Unknown>.

I dont have a voltmeter to "check" the wiring. But I didnt mess with any plugs, my question is why am I losing power? All i did was switch two plugs. So when I switched them back, I should regain any lost power. Asumming that was the problem...The one thing that I'm not sure of is that I didn't take out the backup fuse while I unpluged the D Plug from the ECU...?? perhaps that could be why? I'm not really sure.

As far as checking the plugs is concerned, I have checked, and pushed all the plugs compltly in.

      Any ideas?

What was the code you got that came on immediately. Are you sure you didnt mess with anything funny like a ground or distributor wire.

            yes, 36 (mystery code).

I even swaped my P13 computer for the PT3 that my old accord was using (close to same fuel map untill 5,000RPM) because i'm shipping the P13 back to HMO to get a 2WD P13 instead of a 4WD P13.

But in general, does anyone have any ideas as to what might cause a power loss like this?

Could it possibily have anything to do with resetting the ECU?

36 is the 4ws code...that one doesn't matter..i was throwing four codes, got those taken care of, and now i'm throwin two different...(knock sensor and egr)...my car is a little sluggish as well...i'm replacing the ignition components(cap, rotor, wires, plugs) today to see if that helps at all...i'll try and update you on it! do you have a helms?

yes, you are correct (oops)...It's a 4WD P13...but i've mailed that off and HMO is going to give me a 2WD

However...i'm currently using my old F22a4 computer, and the problem still exists. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with electronicly...because...nothing mechanical changed.

                  update:
got my VSS fixed...stupid wire had a short.

Your using an f22 ecu on an h22? No wonder you have a power loss. Just wait till HMO give you the correct ecu. But make sure steve actually shipped it because it took me 3 months just to get a new knock sensor because he never shipped it.

I'm sorry, perhaps I mis-stated this. I was using the H22 P13 ECU when I got the power loss. I recived the power loss after i switched two plugs (VSS/EGR) and reset the P13.

Now, I've swaped the VSS/EGR Back (and now VSS work , was a bad wire in the VSS). However, on both computers, P13 and PT3, this horrible power loss exists.

I'm thinking that my ignition timing is wrong or something. Because as the car runs over time (a few days) it seems to gain more power.

You've got no power because your car is running in limp mode. Emphasis on the limp factor. Your v-tec isnt kicking in (h22's without vtec are like a regular f22) because you're getting these CEL's. Until you clear up those CEL's your car will be running limp. No cel's = viagra for your h22!!

ok. Someone please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong here...but here is the situation.

My car has had CELs since day one of the swap. Those cels, 12/17/22/23/36, have never changed or gone away. Nothing changed in the car. Ok, so the car has always been in limp mode...i know that. I'm not saying my car is slower than a non-limp H22, I'm merly saying that one day it lost a tremendous amount of power even compared to limp mode. Now it's kind of like, super limp mode. Now, I've experienced this problem with BOTH ECU's (P13/PT3).

Does anyone have any ideas as to why after resetting my ECU (P13) that I would lose all of this power (even with running the same p13)?

Your wiring is your problem. Fix it and all will be well. Just focus on that and dont start replacing parts (other than that bunk ECU)

so what wiring do you think would cause a power loss?
