Just curious if it's possible to weld exhaust piping with different diameters together? For instance a 3" pipe to a 2 1/4" or 2 1/2".

you'd need a cone/taper adapter in order to join those pipes with differing diameters.

There's other type of adapter (step) but it may cause some turbulence/restriction that is not so desirable for exhaust gas flow.Last edited by oyajicool; 07-13-2013, 06:52 PM.A&P-IA

What diameter are you going from and what material are your pipes made of?
Most exhaust shops would have a few mild steel reducers on hand. As well some will have a pipe expander. To be honest with you a cone piece would be the best bang for your buck. Most muffler shops will probably only carry the bump adapters. And then if you have stainless steel they may or may not stock reducers. Probably better to call ahead to find out for sure.
