How do I know if my engine blew?

So I just picked up my 93 accord coupe today. And I knew it had a knocking problem. It just wasn't as bad as it was today. So I'm driving it and the oil light starts flashing and I check it. Bone dry. I put in 3 quarts of oil. Start driving again. Now the D4 light is just flashing and flashing. My friend pulls into a gas station. The accord is knocking like craaazzzy man. So I just shut it off. By this time I know for a fact it's not an oil issue. Something catastrophic is going to happen. I figure it's got to be low compression in one of the cylinders. After he fills up, we head out again. We pull out of the gas station. My car makes a really loud pop and I'm like "shit.." But it stops knocking and I'm like I bet I threw a rod. But the car is just vibrating bad. So I'm following my friend down the road and I pull up next to him and let him know what's up. My accord dies at the stop light. I get it started again and I pull into a parking lot. Smoke is coming out of the car but its light smoke. I open the hood. Oil...everywhere. Mainly on the drivers side though. I take a peek underneath the car. There is no oil anywhere but there's a huge hole in the fender well of the drivers side wheel.

Anyways long story short I had to leave it there. No less than 15 minutes down the road from the guy I bought it from. I was able to get it started and moved to a better parking spot.

Anyways is the engine blown? It still starts and runs. It idles a title rough though. If its blown is it worth saving? Like should i rebuild it? Replace with another f22 or go straight for the h22? I know engine rebuild kits are like $200-300. But how much is it in the big picture to rebuild it or replace the f22? I don't even know for sure whats wrong. I just know I shouldn't drive it right now although it can move on its own power.

      Holy batman wrong section.....

Low compression does NOT cause a knock.
Low oil pressure will as nothing is getting lubed correctly. Metal to metal = bad, time for another engine.

Sorry I forgot I was in the wrong section. I was reading a thread in here and got carried away with what I had to ask.

I just remember my cavalier had a knocking noise and when I took it in the mechanic told me it had low compression in cylinder #3. The knocking on my accord sounded almost the same.

Well the engine still starts and runs. So I'm thinking its worth saving and I know rebuilding or even swapping is going to be worth more than the car. But the body is straight and interior is perfect. So it's a car worth saving to me

If there is oil everywhere then there has to be a leak/hole some where. Which prob explains why it was bone dry in the first place when you picked it up. Id take some time and look over the engine to see if you can find where the oil came from. Once you find that you will have a better idea of how to fix it or if its even worth fixing.

No I mean after I heard the loud pop from my engine I pulled over and checked under the hood and saw oil everywhere. But I'm gonna tow it home and have it looked at.

But if you never checked the engine until the loud pop, it may have already been leaking oil. The pop may have been from lack of oil.

                Post up what you find!

The hole in the fender is probably the crank pulley access hole, maybe someone enlarged it previously?

I actually went back and checked out my car again. Huge puddle of oil underneath. I threw a rod. The hole in the fender well is from it looks like a previous accident. I have a 93 accord but 9091 front bumper and 1 9091 coner signal and headlight. That hole is directly in front of the tire. I wish I would took pictures of the hole. Anyways I'm towing it home Friday. I have to buy a new bottom end and rebuild the engine. Sucks too. The car only has 110,000 miles.

I checked the engine twice before driving it. I need to post pictures of what I have lol. But the oil pan seal has been leaking. Found that out today and that I threw a rod so there's a huge hole somewhere because all the oil came out.

See the puddle of oil under my poor baby So i gotta get a new bottom end and I'm good to go. Such a shame though. For 110k miles i wonder what caused it to fail. We know it was oil pressure, did the oil pump go bad (we have those right?), was the oil filter clogged? SO many questions. I checked the glovebox today and saw oil change receipts. They were all synthetic oil changes, so im really confused now.

                            mass amounts of rev limiter

you will never know for sure until you get it apart. for all you know someone could have ran an oil additive and it caused that damage.
