I would assume any rebuilt RC-17S out there these days will have an aged clutch, and some companies do not replace or warranty the clutch on rebuilt units. Also the RC-17D internal o-rings are all buna-n and more compatible to R134a refrigerants. By getting a RC-17D and converting you are getting a newer clutch if the rebuilt unit doesn't have a replaced clutch on it already. If you get a remanufactured unit it should come with a new clutch as well as buna-n internal o-rings. Be sure you buy reman units not rebuilt units.

I have a RC-17S with a frozen clutch too, or else I would mail it to you. All the new clutches I found cost nearly as much as a reman for either RC-17* series compressors.

I thought about going to denso, but went with the converted reman RC-17D. Also the denso is a 6 piston compressor and the hadsys is a 7 piston compressor.

^notice the difference in the back plate furthest from the pulley?
Are the RC17D clutches the same as RC17S? If so I might be able to get one from a wrecked 5th gen accord. There are tons of them at my Pick N Pull.

But the shitty thing is, my Pick N Pull is closing for good this Wed, no more in AZ So I have to act quick.

Yes, with the exception being they are a 5 groove pulley clutch. I run a 4 groove belt on it still though.

I managed to find 3 accords out of at least 100 in a Phx JY that had the Hadsys compressor. Got the best clutch assembly out of the three and put it in....AC works!

I should've known just from the lower fuel economy I was getting. I was averaging about 23 before and this past tank dropped down to 19-20. Pulley had a lot of friction and wouldn't spin freely because the magnet side of the clutch was starting to fry from getting way too hot.

On a positive note the AC compressor people I bought the reman compressor from finally sent me a new clutch...right after I purchased this one today for 17 bucks. Oh well, guess I'll have a brand new spare.

my 93 Ex has a Denso ( made in USA, not in Japan if it matters) ive owned the car since 2004 so if it did come with a Hadsys then I wasnt the one that changed it.

Maybe you've had an engine swap done

I'm not sure what my original compressor was (probably a Hadsys), but I ran into problems today just as mentioned before.

I picked up a Denso unit from the yard today as I only need it to last a few months or so (hopefully it does the trick) until I replace it with a new unit. Anywhoot, the two lines would not and could not line up with the Denso compressor. That upset me, but then I figured I'd get two new lines from an auto parts store that lines up and fits correctly with the Denso unit.

mine was and still is a Hadsys. I bought a reman'd unit for 170 shipped, you can find them for as low as 140 shipped now.

the reman unit has been working great. Still blows 38 degrees at the vents 2 years later with R12 in the system.
