    ebay catback help

i am now damn tired of my exhaust leak at the resonator so im looking into getting a catback from ebay.

what are some known "brands" that are decent? i really dont want to spend any more than $100 if possible. I have searched around here and some people are saying that as long as i have the stock cat (which im keeping) then almost any exhaust will do.

i want to make the car a little louder but i do not want to get pulled over all the time. plus i drive an auto so it won't be as cool

@ $100 youre gonna end up with a cheap chinese rattler exhaust
but you might be able to swing a package deal that comes with a header, catback, and a 2 piece cold air intake, usually in the $120-130 area.

My personal favorite is the SRS catback @ $250, theyre assembled in china i believe but they use quality material and have a good quality control resulting in a nice end product for the price, to me its no worse no better than a $600 Greddy.

I purchased mine from Speed Daddy (Ebay). It is the whole exhaust (header back). It is 2.25" stainless and sounds like a fart can. I bought it for just over $200 shipped and installation was a breeze. I used the stock exhaust manifold gasket since it is better quality, and the squishy gaskets they sent with the exhaust I coated them with Permatex Copper gasket spray to help prevent any leaks. It still seems to be going strong.

I have this one on my car.

I was in the same position as you, my exhaust was rusted as shit and i didn't want to spend 200+ for a muffler shop to do it. I've had it for about 6 months, and i don't have any complaints about it. On a positive note, you can always have a different muffler welded on in the future, and you won't have to have the "fart can" anymore. Thats what my plans are atleast. haha

I currently have an eBay axle back unknown brand and its deep and loud. I bought an eBay header, downpipe, cat , exhaust because my s pipe cracked. I have found 4 pinholes in the welds and counting. I have re welded 3 seams totaly and still have an o2 nipple to redo. I will put it on my car after I'm done with the poorly aligned, slightly warped header. I am sure it will be deep sounding though. The leading cause of fart can type sound is leaks both from flanges and in some cases welds. When I hear fart can exaust coming down the street I don't think cheap exhaust I think poor craftsmanship. A 350z went by me last week that sounded like an escort with a leak out the header. Conversely a fully sealed straight pipe can shake the ground or sound like crap with even the smallest leak. You do get what you pay for though. If you go cheap like I did it may take a lot of costom work to make it sound/fit good. Tiny pinholes like mine could have been plugged with high temp silicone rubbed into and coated over them a couple days before installation and last for years. Use the same silicone on both sides of the gaskets to seal subpar flanges and boom, it sounds like dolphin skulls.

If money is tight go to the junkyard and see if you can source one. I would explore ALL options before I would consider an ebay fart can bumble bee tuna jobby.

                No thanks.

Just hold on to your hundo till you have another couple hundo to add to it and buy something quality.

My opinion anyways. You want your shit to look nice and be respectable? Don't chince out. The chincing out will show over time, and all of your time and effort will be for nothing.

There are no "known good brands" for the cheap shit. It's hit or miss. Someone may have had luck with one of a certain brand, and you may get the same one and find it sounds like crap. One of the reasons they are so cheap is that the consistency of craftsmanship is lacking.
Most people see a cheap exhaust as either a cheap temporary fix, or something that's worth the gamble.

I have the ebay catback system. I toom the time to change the muffler for a quieter one. I also drenched my gaskets in the copper spray and they havent leaked yet.

eBay is good if you need "new" exhaust piping. Simply buy a brand name universal muffler and have it welded on (damn cheap, some can even weld or have a friend who welds), the muffler alone again can be cheap or expensive. That all depends on how deep your pockets are.

But seriously, the eBay muffler's are big ass shit and look ridiculous IMO. I've seen some OBX/eBay Replica mufflers on youtube that are welded on to stock exhaust piping/eBay piping and sound rather "decent" compared to the included eBay fart can muffler.

It's the shit resonators/test pipe and crap pack bumble bee tuna cans. Since you are using your cat (Good idea) i suggest you get a decent muffler as said even some OBX's are great, but vibrant and magnaflow are always my top choices for a 4cyl.

Im having the same decision making problem right now also. My muffler and resonator are rusted and leaking. Its all just 21yo oem exhaust with an A4 manifold on my A6. Really, really want an Apexi ws2, but its expensive. Thinking of ordering this http://www.amazon.com/Accord-Back-Ma...I30ASCDUPMNDHF. The 2.5" stainless mandrel pipes almost seem worth it. If I dont like it, which I probably wont, then chop off the tuna can and weld on another. Then just swap the header out with my oem manifold every two years for smog test.

I placed order on ebay for one of those header assembly for $61 with free shipping, which is on its way. I bought a cat back assembly also on ebay for $95 with free shipping, a while ago. They both are looking exactly the same as what you see on Amazon.

I do still have OE cat converter installed.
