    Compression test results

    F22a4 h23 IM
    130psi on all 4
Cylinder 3 has black build up on spark plug, others are white-ish
143k original miles original belt and water pump
Car smokes on take off, more smoke the longer you sit
    Backfire/sputter at COLD IDLE ONLY
No startup smoke but it is hard to get to start
I'm thinking valve seals are bad any input?
I plan on just changing the valve stem seals and the tbelt/waterpump Without removing head.
Should I rebuild/replace the motor instead of that?
On a tight budget but i do all the work myself. Thanks

As per maintenance manual, IIRC,135 psi is minimum for compression test.
Smoke on take-off usually means rings are worn and oil is finding its way into combustion chambers.

Things you are saying about your engine, I would overhaul the engine or replace with better one.

With 143k miles on the original belt and water pump it's amazing that thing hasn't snapped. If your plugs are white and one black your headgasket might have been blown like mine was with detonation possibly explaining the black; with coolant and oil getting into the combustion chambers. That would also possibly explain the smoke. What color is your smoke? Blue or white?

If you can do all the work yourself I would never understand why you would skimp $85 on a Fel-Pro headgasket or something similar, with only a couple more hours of work to make your engine reliable for many more miles. In parts alone you're spending only probably about $350 or less. I wish my bill was that cheap.....

OP try a wet test put a cap full of oil down each cylinder, if the psi jumps up roughly 15% you have ring issues.

Those are low numbers. Did the previous owner take care of it? Even my accord with 300,000 original miles it had 150 psi in the cylinders.

What I would do is perform a cylinder leakage test. That will pinpoint where the compression loss is coming from. It could be that you have worn out valves and you won't need to tear apart the bottom end.
