    Leaking fuel tank

    Hey cb7tuners,

So for the past few days I've been smelling gas inside the cabin and also outside the car. I looked under the hood to see if anything was leaking like injector fuel rail and things like that but nothing. So this morning after dropping my son off at school I noticed a new spot on my driveway so I kneeled down and smelled it and what do you know it's gas!!!!.

I found out that its leaking from what i think it's the drain plug, I can see it dripping like Leaking faucet. My question is do those plugs get loose after time or is there something else that might be wrong that could cause this?

I'm sure all I have to do its tighten the plug to stop the leak but I was just wondering how it got loose.

By the way this is on my 94 accord ex.

    Thanks guys.

Here is a diagram of the fuel tank in the 1994 Accord

I believe it is part #45 and #50 on the parts list there. just get a new one an install. For the price of the part it is not worth over torquing the drain plug on the tank and costing yourself more money. your local Honda Stealership should have this part in stock.

I would tighten it and see if it stops. If not, you could use some thread sealing tape and/or a new bolt.

Hopefully it is just your drain plug and not my problem, I have a hole in the tank underneath the driver side strap. I was hoping it was the plug or a line, gas was spread all over the bottom of the tank and dripping off the strap and drain bolt.

If you don`t have lots of gas, you can jack up the rear to get the gas away from the drain plug, let it dry, then drop it back down a watch where the gas starts to come from.

I jacked up the car and cleaned the area around the plug to check or cracks, but luckily it was just the drain plug been just a bit loose.

I tighten the drain plug just a bit and it stopped the leak right away.

          Thanks for the help guys
