bad steering.

OK when turning ( mainly right ) the car will travel forewords for a sec then start to turn . mainly right hand turns followed by a small thud sound . i have checked the bushing's for sway bar and struts / springs to . the upper and lower ball joints are a year old but look ok no tares. could this be the rack n pinyon / bad axle's ?

edit : steering wheel is always cocked to the right .

inner or outer tie rods.. go have your shit looked at by an alignment tech, some places even do free checks..

Even 35mph could result in a deadly crash if a major steering/suspension component fails. It's Friday... I strongly suggest that you take the weekend to fix the problems, or go to a shop and pay to have it done. Even that would be far cheaper than it would be if something broke while moving, even if you didn't crash!

You could be doing 35mph and he/she could be doing 35 mph or more. It could result in 70mph or better impact.

You could be doing 35mph and plow into pedestrian.

Technically, two cars each going 35mph won't result in an impact equivalent to 70mph. The math confuses the hell out of me, but I got corrected the last time I said that myself!

Still, you could be going 35, and they could be going 50!

Essentially, yeah.
I said the same thing recently, and was told I was wrong.


Basically, the explanation went something like this:

Scenario 1 = 2 cars traveling at 35mph, colliding with each other.
Scenario 2 = 1 car traveling at 70mpg, colliding with a stationary object

In case 1 (2 x 35) the energy will be totally used in causing equal (and opposite) deformation on both vehicles. After the impact (if totally symmetrical) the remains remain in a crumpled heap, at the point of impact, as a first approximation. This will be the same as one vehicle hitting a solid immovable object ie a concrete block.


In case 2 ( 70 +0) much of the energy will be transferred from the moving vehicle into accellerating the the stationary vehicle (backwards), and the impacting vehicle will continue forward - respecting the laws of conservation of momentum, but some energy will have been transferred into the deformation of both vehicles.
