    Transmission cable?

So there is a cable that goes from the throttle linkage wheel thing down to the transmission. is she supposed to be loosey goosey? maybe that explains my funky shift pattern... i mean its got a good half inch to 3/4 inch of slack in that bad boy, just doesn't seem right. figured id ask before tightening it down.

With the throttle closed and the lever at the transmission held down, there should be no slack in the cable (nominal setting).

For the record, that is a cable from the throttle body to the automatic transmission to actuate kickdown, or downshifting based upon throttle position. Being loose would definitely explain a strange downshifting pattern and would cause upshifting to occur earlier rather than later depending on the load.

ok so your saying i might shift up from 2nd to third at 45 instead of 40? and my top speed of like, 85 in 4th will go up?

EDIT: throttle closed and transmission lever is held down automatically, but i can pull it up. by held down you mean farthest towards the ground it will go im guessing. in that case, its like that already. with tons of slack

There should be no slack in the cable with the lever at the ful down position. You don't want to adjust the cable anchor nuts such that the cable holds the transmission lever off the full down position at closed throttle.

Took it to my buddy, he tightened it a little, i can tell a slight difference as far as downshifting goes when i try to power up a hill. But other than that theres no difference in driving. gas pedal feels a little tighter... like. firmer
