    Engine / Motor Year Identification.

I was curious to find out what year my newly purchased H22A was. After searching all morning, I found two references that told me how to identify which year my motor was built. One reference was located on here, and the other was from Honda-Tech.

On your engine block, there should be a stamp in the middle of the header that designates which year your motor was built. Here's a picture for reference.

It looks like the stamp on the left is the year and month, and the stamp on the right looks suitable to be the day of the month? Is that correct?

Seriously, am I the only person looking at that and thinking its a 5? It doesn't look like a 6. On the left side of the circle, there is shading across the casting that seems like its not a complete circle. And where the kneck comes off the circle, making the 6 its like a 90 degree corner instead of a transition.

Look at the difference in the 9 vs the 5 and I think you will see what I am talking about in the circle and the sharpness of the corner.

                  I think its a 5

I believe, without a doubt, that it is a 6 and not a 5. It must be just you, :/.

If you look at it upside down it does NOT look like tje 9 right next to it.

                      Just sayin

                        This isn't my motor, but it's definitely a 6.

I agree, it does not look like a 9. But, if you look closely at the smaller digits around the circumferance, you'll notice that the 6 on there is not simply an upside down 9. It does have a "top" similar to the 5, I will give you that. I played with the image in a photo editor to try and help bring out the detail, but all I was able to do is make the top look more and more like the 5. But, the bottom is clearly a loop like the 6, and you can see that the 5 is very, very open on the bottom.
