    Abnormally Low Highway RPMs

So, a strange thing happened to me driving to work on Monday.

My car had sat for 4 days, untouched. It did not want to start that morning (it was 20 degrees outside), I ended up hooking up the battery charger and she fired right up.
My commute to work is 20 miles, of which 15 is Highway. The on-ramp is a long hill. Because the car had made me 30 minutes late already, I was a little frustrated and took it to about 4500rpm on the on-ramp, up the hill. (I rarely ever take her over 4k because she leaks oil and I dont want it to spew)

Everything was normal, she ran thru all the gears just fine and had the normal amount of power.

Then Something strange happened when the torque converter locked up. I was going 70mph at about 2500rpm!! So I took her up to 80mph (my normal cruising speed) and was only at 2800-2900rpm.

Normally, cruising at 70 is just under 3k, 80 is just over 3100.

I was ASTOUNDED. Why, after so many highway trips, would it all of the sudden have lower rpms?? My torque converter lock up has always operated fine, and that day was no different other than the rpm level. I know I was getting great gas mileage bc usually I pull about 320 out of a tank and she was already at 340. I have not refilled and clocked it yet (I do at every fill up), but I can already tell it is higher.
It did this on Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday thru today has been the normal- around 3K.

    So What gives??
Could my sensors be sending a false signal? Has my car been running high rpms the whole time I've owned it until that day?
It is a 1991 EX with the f22a1- the Motor was changed, but the tranny came from another EX.

    Any ideas?

Either the tach or the speedo is reading incorrectly from some reason. Mechanically, there is no way for the transmission to "overdrive" beyond the locked up torque converter ratio of 1:1 (and you didn't miraculously gain 5th gear!).
