    removing ecu

I am going to be going to the junkyard tomorrow to hunt for a p12. I'm just unsure of exactly what tools i'm going to need. Can somebody please help me out? (wrench, sockets/sizes, ratchet, pliers etc) I was looking at the p12 and it did not specify the size of the bolts. Thanks!

Ratchet. extension, sockets. Theyre not big probably 10mm or 12mm cant remeber. Theres about 4 on the case that holds the ECU Then 2 or 3 on the ecu itself. from there just unplug and enjoy

Def. also grab a 10mm, the bolts that hold the ecu to the floor/cover plate are 10mm. Def. grab deep well sockets, you'll run into studs that are on the chassis and shallow will not work. I'd say anywhere between 6-10" ext. would be fine.

Good luck. Try to keep them straight as you are unbolting them. Your arms might also get tired from working in such a tight space but that's the fun of it

welp i wasn't able to find one. The only prelude they had was a 93 with an h23. I wish they wouldve had one though they only sell their ecu's for $25! Looks like i'm gonna have to spend $80 and get one off of ebay.

Pick up the intake manifold off that car. Keep looking. You will find one for cheaper than 80.
nevermind if you did what I suggest you would need to get the pt6 and a cam.

I assume you have an A1? Thats the only f22 that benefits from the p12. Maybe the A4 too

yeaah i was thinking about that. and i have the a4. I'm not sure if i wanna go down that route though. For one thing, i don't have the experience to swap intake manifolds, or camshafts, and i don't think i would trust my self. Thats why i'm just looking for the p12. They actually had an a6 but it was missing the ecu. I would think about going down the h23 IM and a6 cam route if i could find a good DIY on camshaft removal and installment. So far i havent found anything though. If you could help me out i would greatly appreciate it! I can get the a6 cam for $11, and the IM and Plenum for around $50, then the pt6 (if i can find one) for $25. So in reality i guess i would be spending the same amount to go you're route as i would be if i were to just get the p12. Do you think i would make more power getting the IM, plenum, a6 camshaft and ecu than just installing the P12? Also, do i need to get the h23 throttle body? Or can i just use the f22s? I'm pretty sure the throttle bodies are $27. But i'm not sure if they would be include into the full IM or if i would actually have to buy it separately.

When I got my intake. I took the whole thing injectors TB and everything for $15.
To remove the camshaft is rather simple. But If you are unsure of your ability I would say don't do it.
Maybe start with adjusting the valves. and take a look around under the valve cover and see if it looks like something you want to do. There is a DIY on the lower plug seals. you could start there. Basically from that point you would need to do a timing belt change. Its not quite that simple but thats basically it. For the cam.
the intake is a little more.

Yes to the more power ? But at the expense of a lot more work.

Damn thats a pretty good deal! But how would i remove the camshaft? I actually adjusted my valves last week, and it was a pretty cool experience! I feel like if i had pretty detailed instruction on how to remove the cam, i would feel confident in doing it. So would i have to remove the timing belt, and purchase a new one to get the cam out? Would i be able to replace the a4 cam with the a6 & leave my a4 IM?

Also I've been calling Around to junkyards and part stores and they keep asking me for the last 3 numbers on the ecu. Do these numbers matter? I think they're like a01 a50 or something. What do these numbers mean ?

A is 49 state emissions, L is California emissions. 50 and above is for an automatic, below 50 is for a manual. The highest # for a manual ecu I've personally seen was an A11. They're usually A00 or A01 from all the ecu's I've dealt with. EDIT: JDM ecus use the letter N.

I STRONGLY urge you to buy a Helm manual for your car. You want DIYs? They're all there.
