New to timing belts I have a few questions

hey guys i need a little explaing of the jdm h22 timing belt. i have done my research and ive watched videos on how to do it and also looked at this and other site about this. i just have a few questions im hoping you guys can help with.

i keep hearing that the stock or hydro tensioner is no good even if its new. so i im looking to buy the KAIZENSPEED’s H22 Timing Tensioner. i read and heard good things about it and for 150 dollars it comes with the tensioner and a gates racing belt. my question is how often do i have to tighten my belt. anyone who has a h22 in a cb7 knows theres barley any room to work on it so i have remove my motor mount and jack the motor up.( is there a easier way to do this?) My car is only a summer car so its only driven about 4 months a year but i work about 55 hours a week and i dont want to be tighening my timing belt ever week because it keeps getting loose and jacking the motor up? any help will be greatfull thanks

I ran an auto-tensioner on my JDM H22a without a single hitch...

    ...adjust accordingly

I fit them all the time without fail, and have been doing so for nearly 10 years.
We warranty them too unsuprizingly . . .

But yes, some people prefer a manual tensioner for what ever reason.
Why would you have to retension the timing belt every week?

It's set and forget, If your paranoid you could recheck it 20,000 miles if you wanted.

A "Finished" project car is never finished until its been sold.

If at first you don't succeed, Try again. Don't give up too easily, persistance pays off in the end.

I only have a f22a, but After reading this it made me think. Yeah this will sound stupid.

"should I tension my timing belt more than the one time when I install it?"

I have never tensioned it other than the install. OOPS on my part.

But I don't beat the shit out of it either.

I'm not 100% certain how the tensioner on the F22A works, but I'm pretty sure it's not an "active"/auto tensioner. Before you finish up the timing belt job, you have to load the belt with tension by turning the camshaft relative to the crankshaft. After you've loaded the belt, you tighten the tensioner bolts which lock the tensioners in place.

Oh, so the H22 is like "always" on tension and not locked like my f22.

                  steve

Yes you lock it down after turning the crank. Then later you can loosen a nut turn the crank again and it will tension again. And then you lock it again.

Why would you need to retension it? The belts aren't designed to stretch to begin with.
Even the manual does not mention anything about it, other than when replacing the belt.
