Rip in steering rack boot cause problems?

I found a rip in my passenger side steering rack boot when i was changing the oil. there is no fluid leaking from it its just torn all the way around where it is separate from the other half of the boot. will this cause major problems in the future? can i replace the boot?

It would cause problem in the future by having dirt and crud build up, which could lead to seal failure. It is better to replace the boot as soon as possible.

The boot is $15 at advanced auto

You will have to remove the outer tie rod to get it off

Might as well take this time to replace the inner and outer tie rods on both sides and get an alignment.

If you are already leaking fluid then your seals are already out. Just a new boot won't fix the problem.
