Hey guys, I just want to show you about my rebuild. Its been long in the making but its my first ever time doing it. Its a brown (gonna paint it blue) 91' LX wagon Auto.
The tear down was simple enough but took a while by myself,
Out of the car,
Nasty dirty engine,
Used pistons,
On closer inspection you see clogging carbon in ALL of the oil passages. This led to stuck oil rings and HUGE oil consumption.
Worn cylinder walls,
Found two cracked/burnt exhaust valves, which was the root of all my evils. Led to next to zero compression in two cylinders. This was why I took the car apart. Also the oil consumption which was 1 qt every 500 miles! I had expected to find bad rings but it wasn't just the oil rings it was the valves,
I think they were caused by this exhaust manufold crack. There are actually more cracks on the bottom,
Whatever happened here must not have been very good,
Parts from disassembly,
Painted and cleaned block,
New OS 0.50 pistons with Honda rings. Made by Sealed Power. Well technically not by Sealed Power but by "Silvolite". I'll show you,
Silvolite is the company that works for Sealed Power,
Their slogan is, "Better Pistons Since 1922". Well that maybe true. These pistons have different oil passage designs which I think are better at preventing horrible carbon clogging (as you see in the pic). Check em out. For oil lubrication, they got a big opening on both sides and slots running down the piston,
Painted valve cover,
Putting everything back together,
So this is what i've done so far:
New water pump, timing belt(s), tensioners, polished crankshaft and balance shafts, bored out cylinders 0.50 OS. New rings and pistons. Short bloc gasket kit by Fel-Pro. New main and rod bearings + thrust washers. Resurfaced cylinder head, 4 new exhaust valves replaced. Valve job done. New timing cover. New cat-back exhaust system and headers. Ebay short ram intake. Replaced rear brake shoes. Painted the engine bay blue. Cleaned everything as good as possible.
Here is a pic of the short block with some assessories. Pistons and bores look beautiful.
The only thing i'm waiting on now is the transmission. My old one was damaged somehow. Going to get the transmission tomorrow, JDM depot sold me one for 309$ with shipping.
Car has over 333,000 miles on it. What led me to rebuild it was the idle and stalling problems and 2 dead cylinders.
