Can someone tell me what these bolt holes are for?

I see three bolt holes in the front and three in the back of the block that I am not sure are for.

Here's pics of the front. There are 2 horizontal to eachother, and there's a third one on the bottom left facing vertical. There are 2 that look like bolt holes but are not.




Here is the back. The one's I am talking about are the upper right, bottom right, and upper left. The lower left hole is not a bolt hole.

What are these bolt holes for?

Not sure about the ones on the front, but the ones on the back are for the intermediate shaft.

Thing is, my driver side drive shaft doesn't have an intermediate shaft. Could that be because i'm using aftermarket driveshafts? Or is it because i'm in an automatic?

Does that mean I need to get one?

does it reach the wheel just fine? what brand aftermarket ones are you using? never seen one with out the intermittent shaft.

Ohk, some guy on another forum said,

Autos run a long driver's side axle without an intermediate shaft....

So that means those back bolt holes are irrelevant.


I'd still like to know what the front are for though..

I wonder why honda chose to put them in manual cars and not also autos. Maybe its cause the jerkiness of the manual shifts, idk.

that makes sense, to much stress or maybe cause the angle?

but now i wanna know what the front ones are for as well. wait doesnt the exhaust mani have a bracket that bolts up there to hold it down a little better?

Yeah, that's right, the right one does now that I remember, but the left one I don't think so. I've got this extra f22a6 block with the exhaust manifold bracket still attached to it. The bottom left vertical hole doesn't even exist on the A6 block. I guess it too is redundant. That left hole is all that's left to be identified.

i have a 93 SE somewhere in its life the bottom end became an A1(dont know year)
I just went out and looked. I dont have that vertical threaded hole either, however all the other "holes" are there, crusty oxidized and unused. Ill take a wild guess and say theyre probably remnants from when they casted the block

No, the heat shield is bolted directly to the manifold. I know because the manifold is sitting in on a table in my house (also with 2 cracks in it). There is another heat shield which is for the AC compressor but those are bolt holes are located on the AC bracket itself. You can see one of the holes on the actual bracket.

The right hole has been found to be for the exhaust manifold bracket. The left one we have yet to figure out.

Too late for that. My stock manifold has 2 cracks in it. I know the stock manifold has a bracket on the right side but there is not one on the left side. Are you sure that the left one is for the ex mani?

And what do you do when ou have aftermarket headers put on? They are much much lighter, but there is no support brackets for them. What keeps those from cracking and flexing? My guess is the lightness of them.
