    JDM Automatic Transmissions

Hi. I am seriously considering getting this JDM automatic transmission from this place called JDMEngineDepot. Now I have read complaints online about how some imported JDM engines were bad, but i've never read anything about bad JDM automatic transmissions. I would like to know what are the chances I could get a bad AT with these guys. Seeing that i don't hear about anyone having bad JDM AT's, I figure there would be hardly anything to worry about....

    Right?

With any used engine reseller u are always going to run that risk of having a bad motor & or transmission.

I would recommend dealing with a reseller that has a very good warranty and startup guarantee. My first CB had a 92 H22a autoMaGic" and I honestly beat the hell out of it and it never had any issues....Then again I wasn't doing anything drastic like D1/D2 bombs while already crusing at 80mph or anything like that.

With a automatic transmission your odds of having a bad transmission is far less than a manual transmission that had previous grinded gears/worn synchros etc. from age or aggressive driving.

This company i'm dealing with has a price I can't beat but their warranty is not very good. They (like other dealers i've seen) tell you its got to be install by a certified mechanic to redeem the warranty. The price is very good though, I may just bite the bullet and get it anyways. Because when redeeming any warranty, you already have to pay return shipping which in a sense defeats the purpose of even having warranty in the first place.
Shipping costs just as much as the transmission costs.

        Just received the transmission

Hey guys. I just got the transmission today. It looks very good.

        I have pics.

        Packaging was good,

        Packing slip,

The only problem was this broken pipe (which I replaced with my old one),

It looks nice and fresh, hardly any use on it,

Here is the fluid. Its not burned I don't think. It actually looks clean in the sun light. Smells a little funky though,

My car is made and assembled in Japan, does that mean it's JDM? My auto tranny is fine and good. The starter doesn't look like a Mitsuba or Denso. It looks aftermarket.
The tranny fluid you got there, I wonder if it's Honda's fluid?

150 for the unit and 160 for shipping from NJ to VA. If you live on the East coast it may be worth it. Total was 309$. Got it from ebay. The list price on ebay was 150$ and the list price on their website is 250$. I kind of got lucky. The guy at the dealer said that even if the ebay sale expired, you could tell them the price you saw and they would still sell you one for 150$

But we'll see how it works in the next few days.

On closer inspection of the speed sensor, I noticed a strange difference in this one and the old transmission my car came with.

                Check it out.

There are 2 I think coolant hoses running from the speed sensor on my old transmission,

Here is in the bay where the hoses go,

But here is the JDM transmission I just got. It has no such hoses. Nothing.

What do I do about that? Should I just plug up the hoses underneath the bay? If so how do I do that?\

                This is troubling.

Done. Is there anything else I may run into?

                    EDIT,

I've got something else to show you too.

When I tried bolting the TC up to the torque plate the bolts wouldn't fit for the old torque plate.

I discovered that the torque plate for the new trans is different than my old one. The new one has not markings on it, not even a timing mark.

After some cleaning, it looks real nice though, like-new.

Like I said though, there are no timing marks. Is this a problem?

                    The old one has them,

One more thing, some of the fluid in the TC spilled out of it. Probably about half. Do I have to fill it all the way up? What can happen if it has low fluid in it, is it a bad thing?

No. JDM means its built for sale in japan, a lot of the USDM cars are built in japan and JDM cars are built in the US and other places sometimes

you should be good, i know alot of people that have gotten motors/trannys from them and they have all worked fine. just make sure you use honda transmission fluid for it as they are picky as all hell. the fluid looks to be in good condition but you just dont know for sure what brand it is. by the way what transmission did you get exactly? whats the code on the front of it? my favorite auto tranny i had when i was still auto was the mp1a (lsd h22) that thing was awesome until i blew it up :/.

Those were not coolant hoses they are transmission hoses.

Use the crank marks for timing the bottom end.

I have Honda fluid that i'm putting in it but it didn't come with fluid, the fluid in the pics was remnants that was left over from when they drained it. The guy on the phone said they are forced to drain it when they are imported.

I was asking a about having the proper amount of fluid in the torque converter. I spilled some of it. Is that bad?

                            The name is "AOYA".

I hope it all works out. All I got to do now is acquire a 12 point socket so I can put the new torque plate on!

I'm unfamiliar with that method. I do know how to use the marks on the cylinder head cam gear though. How do you check the timing with the crank?

O and I think for sure that its power steering fluid that runs through those hoses. The fluid was like golden color.
