I just made a huge mistake, please help

guys, i have something i need a lot of help on and also i want to show you what newbs are capable of.

Here is a picture of my transmission housing,

Nothing wrong is there? Now look,

    yeah, you get the picture.

Here is the piece I broke off while trying to install my automatic transmission,

I need help on what I should do. What I was thinking was I could jb weld it together and then instead of putting the transmission on the engine, I would just put it in the car first without the engine on it.

Please share your thoughts, opinions, helpful ideas.

    Thanks.

I don't know about jb weld man... i know it's suppose to be a fantastic product but something that big, you might want to go have welded back.

Go visit a junk yard, you need a new housing. It is better than grenading your tranny on the highway. I would not trust JB Weld.

Welding cast aluminum is not smart... Don't do it! It makes it more fragile and also it shrinks and will not bolt up. Any kind of repair is going to leak like a SOB.

        Get it welded.

Edit: You need a very skilled welder. I learned to weld aluminum, and it takes an experienced person to get it right. It can be done though.

DO NOT USE JB WELD!!!!!!!!!! i had the same exact thing happen to me on mine and the transmission still didnt last more then 3 months like that and it was about the same exact size of a crack as well. your missing the two front bolts and then trying to reconnect them on a weak bell housing, your just gonna cause it to have way too much stress on it.

yeah i take that back. i was just reading about what could happen when welding cast aluminum and it seems that the metal has gas pockets that could explode when hit with the welder. So... when that happens, the person welding will be chasing other cracks and holes to weld.

Either way will work, but a whole new casing may cost you more. A new casing should alloy to sleep better at night.

If not welding, get it brazed. Almost the same thing, just different process.

What kind of shop could do the weld job? I'm thinking of just getting a junk yard replacement and be done with it but I dunno, welding maybe better.

JB weld seems like a good idea only because the surface of the break is really gritty, exactly how you want it for a jb weld job.

Don't use jb weld? Why not? The bell housing is not weak I don't think, I just messed up and put the engine and transmission together wrong. It was a tremendous mistake.

Jb weld might be a good idea.

Definitely not JB weld, IMHO. The transmission is load bearing, and you don't the heat from the trans. to cause heat stress/fatigue to the JB weld...

Any machine shop that has a class A welder should be able to do it. Search your area.

The alternative as someone mentioned, go get a new case from the yard.

How do you replace the case when the case contains the entire transmisson?

That's why I recommended getting it welded/brazed. Simple, fast, and it shouldn't be that much. Even if someone took their time to ensure it was damn near perfect, still should be cost effective.
