    A/C Issue

Alright so I have a '92 Ex Coupe and when I bought the car it was already converted out of R12, so everything works fine when it comes to the a/c system but what is not ok is that it blows hot air only, i have refilled the a/c but it only last like 2 weeks? Or so. None of the a/c lines under the hood seem as if they were leaking out

Sometimes I do get that weird smell inside the car, that seems as if the air leak was behind the dash

With that said I decided that I'd swap out my evaporator from one at a local yard since they only cost like $20

    My questions are:
Would this be one of the first things to consider replacing ?

If I replace te evaporator from one at the local yard is there anything else I should get? Like any new seals, gasket, etc..

Is there anyway to see if an evaporator is good from just looking at it? Or just kinda hope that its good?

My last question is does it matter if I get the evaporator from any model cb7? LX, SE or whichever (I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter but doesn't hurt to be assured)

Sorry for all the questions together it's that I searched and found much of the info I was looking for besides those

Any input is very much appreciated!!

    My questions are:
Would this be one of the first things to consider replacing ? Yes, but replacing it just to see if it will fix it may become very expensive and very frustrating when it still leaks.

If I replace te evaporator from one at the local yard is there anything else I should get? Like any new seals, gasket, etc.. Well new lines would be what i would get, with a warranty but like I said get a leak testing kit and find otu what to replace.

Is there anyway to see if an evaporator is good from just looking at it? Or just kinda hope that its good? no. at least by my knowledge I do not think so.

My last question is does it matter if I get the evaporator from any model cb7? LX, SE or whichever (I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter but doesn't hurt to be assured) Yea all models fit im 90% sure

I'd replace all the O-rings you can, autozone sells a kit for those green viton o rings for about 10 bucks. It has a wide variety of O ring sizes, you'll have more than enough for 2 cars

Honestly, I would replace the two O-Rings on the compressor for the Low and High side... and also change the Schrader valves for Low and High side. If that doesn't fix it, then check your Thermal Expansion Valve (TXV) to see if it's clogged or not. 95% of the time, it's the O-Rings.

I'm doing this next week myself. My neighbor is an HVAC technician and will be helping me out.

Can you guys elaborate a bit more on the O-rings? I have never taken out the evaporator so dont really know where the O-rings are at. Unless they are obvious to see when I take it out lol then never mind

Thank you guys for the inputs!! Really glad with the results!

The O rings go to the Compressor.. The two lines that go in the compressor.. it should be one piece with two ports going in... two bolts holding it together... You replace the two O-rings there, then put it back together and that should be solved...

Would you need the special wrenches to loosen the a/c lines?
I forget what their called or would regular open ended wrenches work

Might wanna check if the lines are still pressurized before taking them off. I got blown 2 feet back when I took one off my condenser . Also to answer your question. If I remember correctly its a 10 or a 12 and itd be easier with a socket wrench from under the vehicle. Jack it up on jack stands and the compressor is directly under the Alternator and Power steering on the bottom. You may have to loosen the compressor to get to the lines easier I honestly cant remember.

O alright thanks!! this pretty much answers everything I need to know about the evaporator lol

hopefully its just the o-rings though

also, you'll have to remove the bumper to get good access to the A/C line going to the condensor
