If you have the radiator full and radiator cap off with car running and it never sucks down and gets that hot I would start with testing the thermostat(google how) or remove it all together and see if the coolant circulates without it.

When you did the thermostat did you burp the cooling lines of any air that were in them?

Something else you could try temporarily is to uninstall the thermostat and run the car. That way the coolant flow will not be restricted at all. If you still have overheating problems then your next bet is the water pump before moving on. If it solves it then you have thermostat issues.

I completley forgot about this trick. I have done this in the past and it worked just fine. Like Jarret said this is a great way to determine whether it is just thermostat issues or if you did get a bad water pump.

Because I'm pretty sure it has been done correctly.
I think youre supposed to leave the cap ON while you open the bleeder bolt

That is actually a good idea to to check if the thermostat is faulty. It can also be the coolant tempature sending unit that is just giving you faulty readings. Worst case scenario is the brand new water pump. Im not sure if this was stated before but is there signs of leaks or coolant loss??
