Exedy Clutch Stage 1 Disc help

I was removing my 5spd tranny from my car last night in order to replace the syncros since I've got a grinding 5th gear. I stupidly wanted to take a look at the clutch condition and accidentally dropped the disc on the driveway, which made it crack at the edge.

I'm probably going to end up buying a new Exedy Clutch disc because its chipping away, but I don't know which number matches my Stage 1 kit.

I did some research but really didn't get a definite answer. I found some part numbers but I don't exactly know which kit its for. If someone could help me distinguish between them?

The one on my clutch disc is HD504D

But when i called my local Exedy Supplier, he has a part number listed as HCD015U.

I just want to make sure if this one is the correct PN for my Stage 1 Kit and if it'll be okay?

    here's pics of the damage:

technically, you can use any disc you want. I can't find much on the number you have, so it's possible you have an older part number. I did find some things that suggested a shift by Exedy from one number system to another.
The disc your supplier has should be fine. Remember to get your friction surfaces resurfaced.

yeah I was just weary of putting a stock OE disk on with my upgraded Stg. 1 kit. But after some more browsing, I think Exedy only upgrades the friction material to a 3 puck ceramic type and a 6 spring disk for Stg 2 or greater.

I did find a guy selling the HCD015U PN on Ebay for 20 bucks so that's what I was hoping would work. I kinda dont understand why shipping is 21 bucks though...I asked him about that.

But I also found the HD504D PN on Ebay for 150 which is not what I was banking on.

I hate it when you try to save money by dropping the transmission yourself, you end up spending it somewhere else.

Yeah, that always seems to be the case! I always seem to break more than I intend to fix in the first place. I drop the transmission, I end up replacing axles. I change the suspension, I end up changing bushings.

But yeah, the Stage 1 wouldn't have a significantly stiffer pressure plate, I don't think... if at all. And for your mods, you really don't need much more than OEM anyway.

funny that you mentioned axles, because my Pass. side one (a level 2 DSS) had the inner spline come loose somehow. Its as if the splines came undone or unwelded from the inner CV and now it just feels loose (wiggles back and forth). When I removed it I could actually see tranny fluid squirting out when pushing the inside CV joint in/out. So now its most likely going to have to go back to Driveshaft Shop in NC to get inspected once again.

A simple syncro/bearing replacement turned into 3 problems unfortunately...you know these cars all to well lol

Why do you have upgraded axles anyway? My mods are about on par with yours, and I'm running Autozone remans!

just because they were available, locally for about a 1/4 the price of what they normally would sell for and I was possibly thinking ahead for the future for turbo and more power. Looking back that was a mistake on that part, because I've spent practically a little over half of what they were new just by having to send it back to them so many times.

Shipping gets expensive sending a pair of axles across the country about 4 times...and it looks like I'll at least have to do it once more for this Pass. side one, unless I take the boot off and see what exactly is wrong with it. It could just need a simple weld job, but I'm not too sure how the splined portion of the inner CV is attached (pressed in or welded in)

                That's the truth!
I've heard terrible things about them anyway... I even read an exchange between the owner and a customer online, where the owner was about as mature as a 14 year old hoodlum.

I could see that crack causing the material to flake off. Not only would it cause issues with friction and heat, but it would also imbalance the rotating assembly, and potentially cause the bits of material to get lodged somewhere that could do damage.

yeah I was pondering it but, I can literally flake it off with my pinky. I didn't know they were this fragile.

...then common sense kicked in and for 20 bucks plus shipping...which makes out to 41.xx lol, I'd have a brand new clutch disc that'll go another 100k or however long they last in a beat on Engine/tranny combo lol

I don't think I should use that HCD015U disc....I went to check it out today and the springs and the internal portion of the disc is far less beefy...kinda worries me.

So its either 150 for a new Stage 1 disc http://www.ebay.com/itm/Exedy-Racing...#ht_881wt_1037

Or buy the standard OEM disc for 41.xx http://www.ebay.com/itm/Exedy-HCD015...#ht_500wt_1287

                        Or reuse this one.
