oil pump failure/ lower end noise

so i just swapped in a f22a into my car and it had 170 psi across the board and ran great when pulled from the car i got it from. when i put the motor in i did all the normal stuff like, (timing belt, gaskets, etc...) but i did not replace the oil pump.

My car now is making a lower end noise that sounds much like a rod knock. It's not very loud at the moment and hasn't got worse. whats odd about the noise is that it only happens around 1500-1800rpm's and doesnt get louder as you rev the car. also the noise only happens if you raise the rpm's from idle to around 1800rpm's and then let off the throttle suddenly.

My question is, could the oil pump maybe be going out and just not feeding the bearings enough oil at these lower rpm's? causing a engine clatter or am i just effed?

Could be a tension issue on a belt.

Use a mechanical gauge to check for oil pressure to help rule out the oil pump failure/bottom end catastrophe theory. Also, change your oil, and use a magnetic screen to sift the oil looking for metal and look for metal bullshit in the oil filter. You might also find metal flakes on your oil plug.

Shitty deal man. If you dont find any metal flakes anywhere, and you have oil pressure, i'd be inclined to think something else may be going on.

Hopefully you can rule out any lower end issues.

    Good luck!!
