I've got an M2B4 LSD JDM tranny that has a failing 5th gear syncro. Its started with a grind going into it back in 2010 but now is starting to pop out of 5th gear.
Now, with these trannies, is it common for just 5th gear to fail? or 3rd and 5th? because I had a prior tranny, M2A4 that had a 3rd gear grind and pop out.
What I plan on doing is replacing all the bearings: Input shaft, Output shaft, both differential bearings and all the other bearings in the case to rule those out.
But as for syncros, should I just do 5th? or 3rd and 5th? Right now as it sits, the tranny is shifting fine in gears 1-4 with no pop outs or grinds. Just 5th is the problem right now. I was going to buy the entire gearsets for 3rd and 5th.
I have a guy that'll drop the tranny for 150 and open it up and rebuild it with the parts I bring him for 150, so 300 total for labor and then I'd need to buy parts and fluid.
