    M2B4 Syncro questions

I've got an M2B4 LSD JDM tranny that has a failing 5th gear syncro. Its started with a grind going into it back in 2010 but now is starting to pop out of 5th gear.

Now, with these trannies, is it common for just 5th gear to fail? or 3rd and 5th? because I had a prior tranny, M2A4 that had a 3rd gear grind and pop out.

What I plan on doing is replacing all the bearings: Input shaft, Output shaft, both differential bearings and all the other bearings in the case to rule those out.

But as for syncros, should I just do 5th? or 3rd and 5th? Right now as it sits, the tranny is shifting fine in gears 1-4 with no pop outs or grinds. Just 5th is the problem right now. I was going to buy the entire gearsets for 3rd and 5th.

I have a guy that'll drop the tranny for 150 and open it up and rebuild it with the parts I bring him for 150, so 300 total for labor and then I'd need to buy parts and fluid.

Unfortunately the accord and prelude trannies have this issue almost 95% of the time if they havent already been remedied. Look up a company called SYNCROTECH, they got your fix. My T2T4 has same issue just not a bad in 3rd, but im just gonna keep at it till it proves troublesome other than a grind here or there. 300 for him to tear it out and build is cheap. make shure he doesnt cut corners with things. good luck

I found this on syncrotech's website. Would this be all the bearings I'd need for my rebuild minus the 2 diff. bearings? I was planning on upgrading to carbon syncros anyways. Total cost is 395 for this kit

That's it bro. I have that same kit in storage for when the times calls for it.

**EDIT** Don't forget the bearings, they are not included in the kit.

Its common for 5th and 3rd to grind or have some issues. replace them with an H or F series trans gear + syncro.

Just for the heck of knowledge
5th gears/syncros have been successfully swapped from 3g-5g accords into G1 tegs, and G3 prelude oem transmissions for highway travel.

My swap guy said to get the entire 3rd and 5th gearsets....those come with new syncros right? He said those were the most problematic in these trannies....so would I be okay if I just got their bearing kit from syncrotech's website instead?

            http://shop.synchrotech-transmission...It-BSK-H22.htm

All I really want to do is fix the grinding and popping out. I don't forsee me tracking this car heavily or beating on it on a constant basis. So the extra 175 for the carbon synros may not be what I'd need.

I didn't realize how expensive a gear set was so i'd need to budget my money for those more.

Also, I can't seem to find entire 3rd and 5th gearsets (that include countershaft and mainshaft gears) together in a set on majestic's website. Can anyone help me out there? The prices I got were 246.26 for the mainshaft 3rd, 83.55 for mainshaft 5th, 56.09 for countershaft 3rd and 45.71 for countershaft 5th. Thats seems like a lot, b/c right there that's 430 bucks. My swap guy said it'll be about 150 a set or something along those lines for the ENTIRE gearset for each gear

yeah I was going to also order those 2 differential bearings if I got that kit as well, but probably from honda since they're only 33 a piece and 36 a piece online vs. 50 a piece

Yeah, I ordered the bearings from Majestic. If i remember right, it was more expensive for the gear sets from Honda.

Give Syncrotec a call and let them know what you need.

As for quality though, everything is on par with the OEM stuff? I thought I read that they used NOK and KOYO bearings....same as Honda right?

Synchrotec has a H22 rebuild kit but this does not incclude the gear set and the differential bearings. If its popping out of gear you might need to change the interlock bolt or maybe the shift fork for the gear.

is that listed on majestic in any of their exploded views?

Quality is top notch, we rebuilt my brothers almost 10 years ago (still perfect to this day).
