    oil pressure idle

I installed a oil pressure gauge today because my light was flikering it did it before so I thought nothing but when I cold started it with the gauge the psi was 85-90 after is warmed up fully it dropped down to about 12-13 but after I let it sit there for a little while it did this:

When I hit the gas it jumps right back to 45 and up. Is this good oil pressure or not.

I'm using 5w-30 I just changed it today.

On a really hot day with 5w30 my oil pressure will read as low as 8-10psi at idle. It quickly jumps to a healthy 50-60 by 2000rpms. If your hot psi is too low go with a 5w40 weight oil, that will help a bit. I run 5w30 in Winter and 10w40 in Summer for this reason. With 10w40 on a hot day my oil pressure is between 12-15psi at idle.

Ya its been cold upper teens and my psi was around 6-8 at idle and that was around 800 rpms. I just did a oil change today with 5w-30 so you think 5w-40 will raise it back to normal. But once I raise the rpms past 1000 it goes to 45. At 3000 its near 75.

And that is my hot idle.

the rule of thumb is 10psi of oil pressure for every 1000rpm continuously running.

as for your psi being normal, idk that.
