    5 speed tranny rebuild?

Okay I'm thinking about rebuilding my transmission(m2f4) when I do my swap. Since it grinds once in a while going from 1st to 2nd and 4th to 5th it also will not down shift from 3rd to 2nd. So I'm assuming secros are shot. I got a quote for $700 from a tranny shop
just to take it apart that's not including parts I say F that! So has anyone tore into an accord tranny? What's the procedure and how difficult was it?

Sounds like your blocking rings on the syncros aree fubar, 700 sounds aabout right considering they have to take it off the car and dissasemble. Thoes tranys usally got for 300 to 500, why not just swap out, cause even if u were to rebuild u don't know if the teeth on the speed gears are not worn, so it would be a waste of time just changing blocking rings, rebuilds get expensive, I'd swap tranny if I were you its cheaper less headaches.

I'd be interested too if you post it. My M2B4 is grinding in 5th and occasionally pops out of 5th now

yeah the quote was if I bring them the tranny outta the car and all they do is split it and tell me what I need and that's rediculas. So I think I'm gunna do it my self with a little help from a guy that knows what he's doing lol but a DIY would be awesome to read up on or even watch! And I'm not gunna just get another used one and have it fail on me. I'd rather know what's inside it!

Well I've been doing some research and found on synchrotechs website a fully rebuilt trans cost 995.00. Their rebuild kit cost about 400. And I still might need a other things so I might be better off spending the money on a completely rebuilt trans from them.

almost a grand and you will still have a open diff tranny. thats crazy
i picked up a jdm t2t4 f20b lsd tranny for around $800 from a reputable jdm importer. open diff h22 tranny will be around $500
and your in cali there are lots of importers there.
then you can still sell your tranny for parts.

I found my M2B4 for 650+tax in Anaheim, CA at a JDM Importer. Owner of the shop said it had 35-45k miles but a month later 5th gear started grinding so I'm kinda unhappy about that, nothing I could do since the warranty was long gone. But other importers around the area were charging 1050+tax so I saved over 400 bucks there

im sure you have seen these on here but to make it easy print them out.
it will be helpful when buying a used tranny.

M2B4 5th gear grind is fairly common, mine's pretty fussy when cold, once warmed up it's not too bad. There's def. no speed shifting into 5th, but why would you anyways

5th grind fairly common? How so? My m2b4 is fine I've tracked it and had it on the drag strip 3 years in a row, and even dd in the summer shifts like butter, griding is either from not knowing how to operate a 5speed properly or not changing your gear oil on time, service is what keeps parts going, and if your h22 is healthy it will pull with ease even in 5th on highway, I bearly ever downshift at highway speeds 90% of time just pressing the X is good enough. Again it goes back to maintenance.

To the op; I told you its not cheap in beginning, you said you did some research and now you know a bit better, so like I said for 300 to 500 you can get another tranny in good shape.

The problem with a used trans is you dont know what you are going to get, even the hmo h22 swap I bought had a slight grind into 4th and 5th. I have been through a few of them now between the race accord, dd accord, and dd prelude. I have had a fourth gear failures when the syncro spring broke, a welded diff failed and a piece of planetary gear made a hole in the case , bad grinds in 2, 3, 4, 5 with different boxes. But even the street cars will grind sometimes in different gears.

It sounds like you may want to get another trans and open it up before you install it to inspect it, look for worn syncros, syncro springs, syncro hub, bent shift arms, and gears. In my experience the syncros and springs are the problems. While you are in there clean the magnet it will be covered with shavings, but hopefully nothing larger.
