Since you just rebuilt the motor, I would recommend you do a short interval oil change, that way you can get all the contaminates/particles out of the engine.

I also noticed in your pictures, there was a cat litter bucket, and what appears to be cat hair(s) on parts throughout the engine during disassembly / picture taking, that is why I am giving the recommendation. Oh and if you used all new seals throughout the engine during the rebuild, monitor your oil levels, as those seals are going to suck some of it up, your going to burn some too, expect to eat a quart of oil minimum in the first 1500 miles. Also if you just had the block rehoned, and new piston rings installed, it would have been best to use a regular oil during "break-in".

Anyways, congratulations on getting it running, and from the video it looks like its pulling good

Keep up the great work, and I look forward to more pictures and video.

He replaced it with a used engine he did not rebuild the one he sent off for machine work that he was planning on rebuilding to start with.

I just realized my error, I totally spaced the fact that found a spare block to use instead, and that the only way he would be able to use the old block, would be to bore it out and use a larger pistons.

          Yup, that's correct.

I did a short interval oil change anyways, ran conventional thru it for 5 minutes then drained it and replaced the filter.

Good stuff! Notice any more power now that you have a motor without broken ring lands?

Where did you go? I always had the Big O on Fairview do my wagon when it was slammed. They had no issues at all.

I usually go the one downtown, but at 3 o'clock they said they would need it until tomorrow. Most of the issues was the fact that I had a brand new tire on the front with one that had 2/32th tread left. But the toe is off a little because I had to replace my steering rack bellow.

Ok so I know new rings require a break in period, but what about 2+ year old rings sitting dry in an engine? If I try and get on it hard, say above 4.5/5 k sometimes I will get smoke, but nothing at lower RPM's....

Well you said it had hatch marks my guess is (Reguardless if shop owners said so or not) it was atleast honed and re ringed that would explain the reason the engine was at a machine shop. How bads it smoking?

Not really much and it's only if I push her hard. So just in case I am going thru a break in procedure, start @ 30, WOT to 50 and decel while in 3rd. Sound right? Was told to do it about 20 times

Your rings may be bad, or if your lucky valve seals.

I tested the head before I ever put it on, there are no leaks in the head.

The way i break mine in are (Using normal old cheap oil) i drive about 20 miles of normal driving. Then roomp on em up to mid-upper 3rd gear and let the engine back it's self off down to about 30mph or so. I do it about 10-15 times, and continue to do so for 150-250 miles. Then change the oil & filter with conventional oil run it about 500-750 miles get on it every now and then between the full 1k (Nothing to hard on it maybe a 40-75mph pull). After that i start to run synthetic or what ever you like to use.

You will get mixed reviews on how to break in a engine everyone has their own way of doing it.

You dont need to rebrake it in. the second oil starts pumping threw and its wormed up then its as good as it was when you parked it.

idk if you can test valve seals like that.

I was told if you are accelerating and burning oil its your rings and if you are deaccelerating its your valve seals
