    dirty engine

i got an engine i got at my friends house but when it was stored the valve cover was replaced and my friend never put the cover back on and now theres a healthy amount of dirt built up in the cylinder head. how can i clean this? do i need to disassemble the head or what?

the engine was never ran or turned over at any point since the vc was removed. thanks.

Assuming nothing got into the cylinders, take off the rocker assembly so the valves close, cover up oil ports, and clean. Then again you'll probably have to make sure no dirty oil got into the block in the first place. Good luck, man.

We're in the studio, stay tuned.----------(click)-------->

If its not too bad then you can use the dust remover in a can.

the proper way to do this is to mark all the cam caps and then take all them off. pull off the rocker assembly and dont disassemble it. put it on a tray and use a old tooth brush and 2+2 carb cleaner and clean it out that way and reassemble. then once the engine is in and running, use motor flush to clean out the engine. and then drain that out and use mobil 1 5000 oil to keep the engine clean.

What kind of dirt are we talking about? Is this just dust or literally dirt/soil?
