Backfiring+CEL after going through mega pothole

Yea, that's about the long and short of it...how do I check CEL codes? I also got my inspection done, you think those guys might have f-ed stuff up? I almost feel like either my exhaust is bent shut, the O2 sensor is loose or some other sensor is busted. Thoughts?

*EDIT*- I just realized something...I got my emissions test done, and a couple of days later, out of nowhere, my car backfires and the CEL comes on. I figured out that it had nothing to do with the pothole, as the first time it backfired was ON THE WAY to the train station where the pothole was. Those pricks!!! My car was running perfectly until I went to their shop...!!! Anyways I guess I'll be taking cabs until I figure out what sensor they unplugged or whatever. This sucks. Goodbye tax return!! Anyone in NYC wanna help a brother out?

In the passenger side kick panel there is a little clip, mine is blue. Get a paper clip and loop it around and stick both ends in both the holes so it will jump the code. The check enging light will flash on the dash and tell you what code it is. 1 long flash= 10 and one quick flash =1.

Bump for edit and sticking it to shady shops...if I get a case together I'm calling the cops.

OK, update...that little pipe going to the intake near the valve cover was out. I think/hope that solves it; when I get the chance I'll reset the ECU.

The tube from the intake to the top of the valve cover? Dude, that's you PCV valve. Car will run like shit without it.

I was doing some work onthe car and the POS Fram PCV valve busted on mine. The car ran like pig until I got it replaced. Unbelievable how one thing will do that.

The code was 41- the O2 sensor heater. Parts stores say there's no such thing, and that I should just change the whole sensor...does that sound right? I wanna fix this ASAP...

just replace the O2 sensor, and reset the ecu..it should get rid of that CEL(41)
