does a new, unused fuel pump "go bad"?

ive had a venom fuel pump sitting in my closet for about 10 years now and im just curious if its even good anymore.. tried selling it a few times, but no go.. its got TIGHT plastic caps over each end and has been wrapped up in bubble wrap in my closet the whole time.. i just took it out and theres some very light surface rust on the outside, but the caps are still on secure, so nothing has gotten inside..

any input?.. and like i said, im planning on selling it cheap, so if youre interested, let me know..

If you can, try to hook it up to a 12v source. If you have access to a power probe you can use that, or just use two jumper wires from a battery. you'll know when it turns on.

i think a major part of it was that it was obviously tested before i bought it by venom because of the gas smell.. plus, with the extremely tight caps on both ends, the gas kept it "lubed" and no foreign particles got in.. being in my closet and not in the elements didnt hurt either..
