Cam Gear Install Easy/Hard?

I wanted to put in an adjustable cam gear to make a lil more top end power. I was wondering if this is a fairly easy job to do? its looks kinda easy but of course looks arent everything. i have some experience on cars. Think the hardest thing i had to do was swapping out my stock suspension for a full coilover and installing a DC header since u gotta loosen a motor mount for that haha. anyway i do everything out of my haynes manual so thats how i learn how to do certain stuff but just takes me a long time since i did all this stuff about 2 times... my car and friends car usually. Think i could do this for the first time? Also any other important things i should do when installing a cam gear or useful tips? anything will help. thanks!

oh yea... is all honda adjustable cam gears universal or does certain ones fit certain engines?

which friend? i have no friends in this forum LOL. haha oh wait nm i i know whatchu talking about. nah my friend has an integra... just like all my other friends. for example i recently changed my fuel filter and since i never did that before it took my like an hour or a lil more hahahhaha. but yea im very familar with suspension swapping now (since i did like 3 times to my car and 3 times to other ppls cars) so i can do that in like 2 hours or less... maybe. lil longer if i have no air tools or run into problems. only one of my friends have a cb7 but his dad (a mechanic) does everything and he doesnt soup it up much.

anyway whatchu need help with? my knowledge is very limited so i hope u dont need help with a tranny overhaul or anything. IMO buy a haynes manual cuz that thing does wonders but the down side is that if u are doing it for the first time it is gonna take u double maybe triple the standard time to finsih the job. well thanks for the bump.

the cam geras arnt universal... and its not to hard just basic hand tools and some time

Changing the cam gear isn't that hard but why don't u go ahead and change the camshaft too while ur at it

not that hard huh? so all u gotta do is unbolt the cam gear, loosen the tensioner and slip on the new one right? can u reuse the belt or no deals?

so how much gain would you get from just the cam gears on a f22a1?

just set the engine at TDC (keyway is facing straight up), remove the bolt, mark the belt where the timing marks are on the gear, and pull the gear and belt off together, don't even mess with the tensioner. As long as you are there, probably a good idea to replace the seal cause I garantee its leaking. Then just place the belt on the gear (lining up the marks of course), and slide the gear onto the cam. As long as the keyway is facing up, you shouldn't have any problem sliding the belt and gear back on. Matter of fact, if its been a while, you may want to replace the belt anyway.

IMO...if you are getting an adjustable cam gear just to get some top end, then you're looking to advance the cam timing I take it. Well, if you know where you want it, then just set the stock cam gear at that mark and be done with it. However, if you're getting a camshaft regrind, etc in the near future, then I agree with this modification in anticipation for it. Just trying to save you some money. Cam gears cost like $120 or so. I suggest Skunk2 if you do need one.
