Engine rebuild kits, what to look for?

I'm looking at doing a rebuild of my F22a1 this summer, the block is in great shape and compression is like the motor is new, just i'm getting a few oil leaks and tranny oil leaks. not major leaks, but leaks none the less. So I figured I'd get a complete gasket kit for the motor and tranny. since my compression is still good I figured that a re-ring wouldn't be necessary, but i may do it since i'll have the head off to change the head gasket. for the cyl head I was looking at getting a rebuilt one without the cam so I can put my own in.

as far as tuning goes I'm planning on staying NA and not trying to excede 250hp MAX when i finish. i'm not trying to get any major gains just by doing a rebuild but as like an end goal after i do everything i'd like to. Should I look at new piston rods or will the stock ones be alright?

I'm just wondering what are some good brands to look at and are there any other parts I should look out for during the rebuild? thanks!

you should look at getting the block zero decked, i know honda sometimes run the pistons in the hole.

plus it would be good for headgasket seal.

felpro makes a really good set but it is expensive. sometimes the dealer can get you the specific gaskets so you dont have to buy an entire kit and oem parts are the best.

headgasket, you can get a thinner one to bump compression from bisimoto and it'll be quality shit.

However if you zero deck the block, getting a new piston and rod setup will conflict with your existing deck height.

well i was thinking of getting a junk yard motor this month and getting a rebuild kit ... but like always google sends me to ebay .... where is a quailty rebuild kit ?

What does running the pistons in the hole mean exactly? Ive heard reference to "the hole" before. I'm guessing that it's the cylinder area below the headgasket but i'm not sure.

I wouldn't get any "kit"... as most people that sell all the parts you need in kit form are going to use inferior aftermarket parts sourced for very little money, and charge you extra for the convenience of getting it all at once. Buy your parts from Honda.
It may seem like more work, but you're going to have to know what each and every part is, and what it does... so a "kit" isn't going to be saving you much trouble in the long run. www.hondaautomotiveparts.com is a great place to go.

You could always look at the list of parts included with a cheap "ebay" kit, and then find those parts from Honda. That way, you know you'll be getting quality parts.

below the deck surface, it affects compression
