Put in Reverse and Tach Drops!?

So reciently I've replaced both my alternator and distributor on my f22a6.. I was driving my car home after replacing the distrubitor and I noticed a lot of my electrical stuff was verry dim. Then I noticed that when i shift to reverse(standard trans) the tach would drop from whatever RPM's to 0 as if power was lost to it. Anyone seen something like this before? I haven't had much time to mess around with the electrical to try and figure out whats going on, but i think something is wrong with the wiring somewhere like something is grounded when it shouldn't be

there seems to still be a drain of power from somewhere. You made sure all the connections to the alternator are tight? Sometimes the plastic tab on the clip for the Alt. plug can break from getting old/fragile/brittle. Make sure that tab still clicks and locks the plug in place.

If it is broken a small ziptie can do the trick.

Yea i checked the connections at the alt. and the dist. and both of them seem to be alright.. Im going to try first exchanging the distrubitor for a new one and ill do a bit more diag on it tonight to see if the alternator is charging properly.. And if that dosent work im thinkin the wiring harness must be toast and grounding out somewhere..

I messed with it a bit last night but its still doing the same thing.. I start it up and it will idle high like normal at first but then if I touch anything, brake pedal, rear defog, headlights, anything.. the charge light comes on and the tach would just drop to 0! I could get the tach to rise if i slowly pushed in the gas but then it would just drop once i got for around 2500rpm.

So after I test and insure the alt. is charging and get another new dist in there.. I guess my only option is going to be to replace the wiring harness. I called honda to get a price on it cuz i get a discount there still but they said the was discontinued

So since my battery(optima) died since this whole ordeal and the charge light is whats coming on during my issues i decidd to pull the battery (3mo old) and the brand new alt. and take them into work to test.. Battery says just needs a recharge and test, but the alt.... i tested the damn thing and it isnt even putting out good voltage! I brought my old alt in just for gets and shiggles and sure enough its still good putting out a very healthy 14v! So ill be putting my old alt. back in the car with the fully charged optima and i guess we'll see what it does now! I have another new dist. just incase i suspect that next. Damn made in taiwan quality shit! Nippon/Denso FTW
