    oil pressure sending unit leaking.

    Howdy all!

I had a thread on breaking my main crank bolt.

Now I've reassembled everything, new head, belts, seals, gaskets, oil pan....

After re-assembly I added oil and fired her up. Two turns and she's running.

Issue is oil is just DUMPING out the back of that oil pressure sending unit behind the oil filter.

Does it have a gasket or a rubber seal? Before I go back I'd just like to know what to expect. If it's an O-ring type seal I likely have it. If it's a gasket I likely don't, and need to hit the store again.

Also any chance the sender itself could be leaking?

    Thanks

Get some teflon tape and wrap it up. That should do the trick.

It's coming out the back of it. Between the block and the unit.

I just went over and took it off. It's a rubber seal (or once was). Unfortunately there was no replacement in my full engine gasket kit.

I tried to make one using another unused thing. It's worse!!

Going to need two quarts and a new gasket.

      Oil pump sure works though!

Like I said, teflon tape. It costs less than a dollar at a hardware store I think.

Well it's not a sending unit. It's an oil cooler. Only available in 91 on the SE model too. I hunted all the local shops for it, to no avail. So, I called the dealership. THEY told me it's the in, and out lines of an oil cooler. They have the gasket for $2.40!

So, I guess we'll drive her tomorrow night.

(Cool, and sucks at the same time! LOL)

It's not a leaky pipe fitting. It's almost exactly like the seal on an oil filter except thicker. The same diameter, just thicker. I'd guess about 3" across??

Oil cooler gasket between the block and oil filter

                Well that did it!

Other then setting the timing it's a done deal. We'll have to remember that the SE has an oil cooler diverter between the oil filter and engine block. That gasket is tough to line up, because it doesn't seat anywhere. It just kinda sits in a loose cup around the diverter.

Wording it that way maybe someone will find it when it happens to them.

Just go buy some teflon tape and it should fix the problem.

Glad you fixed it, if not done correctly teflon tape could disintegrate and clog that oil passage and starve the cams or get lodged somewhere.

I'm STILL not sure how I'd have even used Teflon tape.

How exactly do you use it to seal a flat surface to a flat surface??

I've used it on pipes MANY times. Even have a half a role in my shed.

Just can't seem to picture it,.. Maybe cut short strips, lay them out like sticks and twigs in a birds nest? Then as I screw on the mating surface like an oil filter I can just pray HARD that the strips don't bind, role, pill or simply move OUT of where they'd be needed??

I'm not to surprised the $2.50 gasket worked out well. After all IT is the right part for the job!

Not how pressurized systems work. If the tape disintigrated, it would have just pushed out with the oil that was leaking out as long as you just put the tape on the threads. If the oil pressure sender is the same on the F22A's as it is on the F22B2's, the teflon tape would have sealed it on the threads.

We suggested teflon tape because you said it was the oil pressure sender leaking, which is a pipe fitting on the F22 (I guess the ones without an oil cooler).

THIS thread should be put to death! I quoted MYSELF to show I found it was an oil cooler a week ago. (6 days ago I fixed it).

I thank everyone who helped. NOW to let this fade away. LOL
