    My Baby Wont Start!

i got a 90ex... and it hasnt been starting AT ALL!
wen i turn the key all i get is a single click... NO CRANKING AT ALL!
all dash lights come on, everything works... but it doesnt start...
i did the headlight test and headlights stay bright when i try to start.
i got a brand new battery. and it still doesnt start..
then i jump started the starter by sticking a screwdriver in the hole where the ignition wire goes in, and hooking a positive cable to it, and the car started right up...
so what can the problem be???

yea... it CANT be the starter OR the solenoid... cuz i hooked up the positive to the terminal on the solenoid and the starter started the car...

so its got to be sumthin else...can sumbody list all possible reasons that can be stopping the car from starting.. also if you know any simple little tests that i can do, jus post it for me.
            thanks...

also, when i try to shift, its kind of difficult to shift INTO and OUT OF park... can this be related to the no start issue?

Do you have an alarm on there/or had an alarm with starter disable on there?

I'll chime in and say that NO, the auto-shifter problem is NOT related. I have the auto-shifter problem, and my car starts like a gem. As far as I have read, that is because of the shifter cable being maligned, it can be readjusted, but you have to take apart the shifter assembly. If I can ever get around and do it I'll let you know how it turned out, because mine is getting worse...

on the stairs, she grabs my arm, says whats up,
where you been, is something wrong?
i try to just smile, and say everything’s fine.

Maybe it's the ignition wires. The same thing happened to my 91' SE a few years back. I had starting problems before that. Sometimes, it wouldn't start too. Then if you turn the steering wheel back and forth for a bit, i guess the wires will touch again and it will start. Try turning your steering wheel back and forth while starting it to see if it will start. If it does, then it's gotta be your ignition wires. My dad went to the local junkyard and got another set of wires and it worked fine. Hope this helps.

Couldn't of been done without you guys

I bought the car about a month ago at a auction... and yes it does have an alarm on it... but the alarm is disconnected...
but there is a button that u had to press BEFORE turning the ignition key to make the car start..

Could that be related to the prob???

wen i ask can the shifter prob be related, i say that cuz could it have also fucked up the neutral safety switch aka the shift lock solenoid???

I have to take a look at my helms to dig into this deeper. But off the bat I'm thinking that the problem could be in one of two things most likely. Either your ignition switch or the "kill switch" mechanism you have is not working properly and/or is bad. I agree that your battery and starter are not the issue. The fact your engines does start when you direct connect the battery to the starter also tells me that your fuel/ignition system is working fine. Something is preventing the battery power from going to your starter and that's why I think it's your kill switch not completing the circuit or the ignition switch for the same reason.

o ok... by the way, i bought the car at a police auction WITH the kill switch aready installed...

also if this helps... previously, the car was a STOLEN vehicle that was recovered by the NYPD. i guess the owner didnt want it anymore. so the car went up for auction at a INPOUND FACILITY auction. that is where i bought it. for $275

wen i bought it home. i went to start it and it started right up... its like after like a week it SUDDENLY stopped starting ALTOGETHER... its NOT like it was gradual, like sometimes it would start... IT JUST NEVER STARTED AGAIN...

also, it has some flaws. like the hood stays popped... it wont COMPLETELY fully lock.. maybe it was the theives that fucked up the hood lock??

wen i bought it, at had no stereo or nuthin, all stolen previously.
and on the drivers lock, it looked like the lock was tampered with... the panel has a small tear where it looks like the theives tampered with the rods. so now wen the drivers door is open, it looks as if it was locked.

The reason why i am telling u this is because, maybe the theives also fucked up the ignition switch wen tryin to steal the car??
maybe it had a few days left in it wen i bought it, then it just went out altogether??

ALSO I REMEMBER, WEN I FIRST HAD THE CAR, THE HOOD WOULD COMPLETELY LOCK DOWN IF I PLAYED AROUND WITH IT... LETS SAY IT WOULD LOCK ABOUT 1 OUT OF EVERY 15 TRIES.... NOW, IT WILL NOT LOCK AT ALL

what do u think??? any tests??
BUT we can also still investigate the kill switch.......
