About Cb7tuner Kudos, Thumbs Up All That And A Bag Of Chips!!!

I just wanted to say thanks again to such a great community of people who share their ongoing experiences and troubleshooting to resolve issues. I have been working for 7 days on a cb7 that was given to me. I worked for 3 hrs a day since last Thursday on it till last night and I finally found all the problems. I VERY VERY RARELY get stumped. I did in this one.... Thanks to this site I was able to isolate the issues and get them resolved.

Oh the issue- 92 automatic- 196k miles

hesitation when accelerating under 2700 heavily but all the way through 4k shifting-
    DAY 1-
    1. changed plugs, wires, cap rotor
    2. cleaned egr ports
    3. reset ecu
    NO CHANGE UGGGGHHHH

    DAY2-
    1. converted to internal coil distributor
    2. reset ecu
    3. disconnect EGR
RAN BETTER BUT ONLY VERY MINIMAL AT IDLE ONLY- not under load
    reconnect EGR- no change
    disconnect o2- worse

    DAY 3.
    1. FITV FIX
    2. IACV CLEAN
    3. Throttle Adjust screw
    4. Reset ecu
NO CHANGE WITH EGR CONNECTED OR WITHOUT UGHHHH

on to day 6-7 cause everything else was repeats of day 1-3 just continuing to try every option and resetting ecu

    DAY6
    1. I noticed on day 3 that I had to jump the car off- HMMM only sat for 1 night and would not start???? Did it again today but NO START AT ALL-
    2. Used my battery from my wagon- started up- ran some seafoam through it as a final attempt-
    3. Cleaned EGR AGAIN
    4. TAKE THROTTLE BODY OFF AND CLEAN- change TPS

RUNS OK BUT STILL HESITATING HEAVILY ON LOAD- EGR CONNECTED OR NOT (this tells me if the EGR system is affecting it)

    DAY7- WINNING DAY-
    1. CHANGE ALTERNATOR
    2. CHANGE BATTERY
    3. CHANGE PLUGS AGAIN-
    4. ADJUST FITV
    5. BLEED COOLANT ADJUSTMENT
    6. PUT INTERNAL COIL DISTRIBUTOR BACK ON
    7. SWAP ECU's AGAIN- I had a code 1 on original (weird?)

Let idle untouched with no load on it to relearn- RUNS LIKE NEW!!!

Deevergote- thanks for keeping this thing going and alive. We are becoming a dying breed.

Seriously and to EVERYONE that has put in posts and continues to bring back dead threads and continues to assist on here. THANKS!!!! YOU GUYS RAWK!!!

      So it was the ECU????

It was a combination of several factors- First there was an injector wire cut from the ECU, second the alternator was going out, third the external coil was going out, fourth the alternator sending weak charge killed the battery- fifth, the ICM was not doing its job right, lastly the ecu was definitely an issue in the end...... I believed it was fried after everything else was occurring- I cannot verify that part. I can say that this was the most difficult troubleshooting I have had in many many years.... over 10 to be honest. I dont get stumped easily. I have done over 200 engine swaps, builds, hybrids and I can honestly say this one almost made me throw in the towel. I feel more prepared for the next go round.

Great patience! It does suck sometimes, but it sure pays off in the end ..

Does not seem like I have been doing this as long as I have- I am getting old.... I turned 35 last month. I guess I just LOVE doing this... fixing things and building imports. 17 years and counting on imports- 20+ years on domestics and imports.... and I do this as a hobby. I am a supply chain analyst/ demand planner full time for Radio Shack Corporate Offices in Ft. Worth. So yes I have a real job. I cant stop fixing cars though.... I am working on another db8 this week as well.... TB, WP, radiator, and thermostat. The money is too good to pass up and I do a free tune up and oil change when I do this kind of thing for friends. I still make over 500 for the work and I am done in around 4-5 hrs. I wonder if my wife gets mad about the time I miss with her- probably not when she gets to spend the money hahahaahha!
