    leaking clutch fluid?

Ok So I removed the carpet in the cb for cleaning and I drove i without the carped then I noticed some liquid at the bottom of the footwell under the clutch pedal I dabbed it with my fingers, smelled, felt, it and it had an oily but not slippery feel and an oily smell I assume it's clutch fluid since that's where it seems to be coming from.

What do you think? Has this happened to anyone before? What could cause this?

yep it's your clutch master cylinder - look at the seal where your clutch pedal goes through the firewall.

From the engine bay or from the inside of the car? Would and could it be a bad seal or a bad clutch master cylinder?

Inside the car, for your situation. The clutch master cylinder is a complete unit thats not to expensive, just a bit of a pain to bleed. Heres a pic http://www.autozone.com/autozone/par.../N-iwry5Z6o23x

If you look above your clutch pedal you can see the CMC rod that will go through the firewall - right there it should be leaking, mine is doing the same right now.

you should also replace the slave cylinder while you're at it. later.

I suggest getting an OEM master cylinder. I bought the autozone one and crapped out within a few thousand miles .

^ second that for any auto zone part. OEM is the best way - just using the link to show him what to look for, and yeah you should do the slave too

Mine was from a local AdvanceAutoParts store in this region and has been a good part for about 40k miles -- OEM is best, but I don't feel like it's as critical as maybe a timing belt or water pump. Worse case scenario is that you'll have another failing cylinder (gradual leak with regular fluid inspections), rather than a belt or radiator dying on you while driving.

When mine crapped out, it was the master cylinder and slave cylinder. I replace them and STILL had a clutch with no pressure just days later!!! It was actually my clutch hose (rubber line by the trans.motor mount) that had a leaking hole and was losing fluid also...

                  Good luck.

nice to see what it looks like. Looked up both slave and master cylinders so now I know what to look for. Now I just need to see where they both are and how the hell I'm going to get them out from the look of it, it shouldn't be harder that replacing the master cylinder of the brakes... maybe a little more difficult.

Well Not that I will be able to replace it soon (broke ) but now I know what I need so thanks for the help guys!!
