Just got my cb7 a few months back and im in the process of tuning up the ride. I am wanting to have somebody do the timing belt for me as I want this done right the first time to see how it is done since this is my first honda. Question is, how much does this run for labor. I got a guy who will charge 260 bones for install only. Is that a fair price. I hope we can write about prices of things, I just read the rules before posting this and didnt see anything about pricing of parts or labor. If I missed that portion feel free to delete this post.

260 isnt bad. is it an experienced mechanic? you will also want to invest in a waterpump, balance shaft belt, and timing belt tesioner, parts should be about 100-150 depending on where you go for them. when it comes down to doing the job, i am not sure if this guy is going to warranty his work,and/or is it a shop? or a backyard mechanic with some skill? if you want it done right the first time a dealer is going to charge you around 700 all together plus tax. but they will also warranty it for a while, not sure on how the warranty would go, that would be betweeen you and the dealer and/or shop you have do it.

I'd do it myself, however $260 seems like a good price to me.
Make sure he does the water pump, and checks the tensioners for that price too. (supposed to do these at the same time).
ALSO, make sure he checks the coolant pipe on the back of the engine for rust. It would be easier to replace that while you've got it apart, then later.
Good luck!

Ive checked into doing it myself but Im just a little nervous as I have never worked on Hondas before. I have moderate mechanical skills and feel that I could do the job as long as I see if one or two times but I dont want to use my car as my guinea pig as its my only form of transportation right now.
