Car started running rough suddenly....may have found the problem

I commute every day 100 miles to and then from work. First week I bought my CB ( 4 weeks ago ) it was my week to drive ( I swap weeks with 2 other guys, so I only drive every third week )....trip was great, no problems except axle starting to pop on Thursday of that week....replaced it. Anyway....only drove the CB around town for the next two weeks, no problems! Yesterday was my turn again, drove to work 100 miles, no problem....when i cranked the car at work to head home that afternoon the idle seemed rough but wasnt horrible.....by the time i got back into town I smelled oil when sitting at the first red light in town and idle was rougher. Car also had less power and was a bit noisy at higher RPM. So....I get home and start trouble shooting....I go to check the plugs and 3 of the 4 had so much oil in the plug tubes that the entire spark plug socket was soaked! So....new valve cover gasket set this evening and a lot of oil to soak up with some rags. Im hoping thats all it is and when I did pull a couple plugs and replaced them I noticed it ran much worse when I drove it a couple blocks up the street....so I figure thats what it has to be as all i did was make the plugs even more oil soaked. Anyway.....just rambling a bit and will update tomorrow as this may just help someone in the future.

Its your lower tube seals or also called rocker arm o rings. They're about 12 bucks for all 4 from Honda. You would have to remove your rocker arm assembly to get to them

Crap dont make it harder then it is already!! LOL Why do you think its those as well? I had the same oil issue on a DA integra a while back and it was just the spark plug seals that come with the valve cover gasket set

He thinks it is that because it is. I've had to do three of my four Accords so far. The lower seals essentially turn into brittle plastic over time and loose all ability to seal. Crankcase pressure tends to push the oil past the joint into the plug holes. That much oil in the plug holes can cause shorting problems with voltage for the plugs and contribute to poor running. Pulling the plugs and letting the oil drain into the cylinder may have been part of the problem with poor running after replacing the valve cover and upper tube seals, it should burn off relatively quickly.

yeah I know by experience, these rubber seals get petrified into a hard/brittle material and when they get hard, they don't seal very well. Oil in the spark plug chamber basically kills that cylinder by shorting it out

Sounds to me like we are talking about the seals that come with the valve cover gasket set, they are what keep oil out of the spark plug tubes....but these....well at least on a B18 do not require the rocker arms to be removed. I have not pulled the valve cover yet....hope to do that tonight if time permits.

Ok now that I have watched the video I see what y'all are talking about. I didn't have time to do all that tonight so I did the valve cover gasket, plug tub seals and new plug wires. Seemed to smooth out a tiny bit maybe but not much if any. I cleaned all the oil out, test drove to burn any leaked oil out of the combustion chamber......can't say it's doing any better.....freaking weird

Drove the car 100 miles to work this morn......started out as I left it last night, slight rough idle...by the time I got to work idle is ROUGH, car shakes, less power but....still gets on up and cruises at 75 mph with no problems.....with the exception of taking a bit longer to get there.

                  New valve cover gaskets....
                  New spark plug wires....
New dist cap and rotor ( old cab WAS wore out ).....
Checked and gapped plugs ( going to try another set tonight or tomorrow ) ...
Cleaned and checked the EGR valve....
Checked compression, good across all cyl 175-180.... well within spec!

So.....car sounds like its missing......going to continue playing with it this weekend, clean a few of the other sensors..... only thing I can say is car ran PERFECT before I slammed it out, might be a coincidence but I question if one of my rough bottom outs on the highway ride to work shook something loose???? Car is getting raised up a lil bit this weekend as well

Found the problem! Bad injector, should be getting one in the morning and that should fix the issue. Ill update to be sure!
