    OEM spoiler installation instructions/parts...

I know there are threads about how to mount it, that's not my problem. I need some info. about the relay switch that lowers the antenna automatically when the trunk is opened. Also, the trunk springs stuff. I got a used OEM spoiler on ebay and the guy still has the car on his lot. He just uninstalled the spoiler and cut the wires. He told me to let him know what else I need and he'll try to remove it.

Anyone have the directions from Honda or can snap some pics. of what I need besides the spoiler itself? Pics. would be tight from you guys who have the OEM spoiler... TIA

    jggoode@yahoo.com if you have pics.

what i did when i added the OEM spolier to my LX was...baught the spoiler from a forum member, hooked it up to this weird plug by the drivers side tail light...i can tell you the wires later if you need them... but for the relay i went to a local junkyard and was nosing around a 90 EX that had one and looked around the power antenna assy for a relay... there is a little relay that is bolted down where the motor bolts down. Cant miss it... i un-bolted it, un plugged it, and there were two wires that ran to i dont know where i just cut them... and when i installed it on my LX i just ran one of those wires to the trunk light....since when its open the light comes on, supplying power to the relay to retract the antenna.... i installed it in all of like 5 mins....

Dude, what part of Indiana are you from? I'm in Greenwood. Pics would be mad tight. If you're close to Indy, we might could hook up for a quick minute to see what's up. Any help would be appreciated!

If the antenna does not go down when the trunk is opened with the spoiler attached, the spoiler will hit and bend the mast of the antenna....therefore the relay retracts the antenna so there wont be any damage..... i just took pics i'll post them after i resize them

Yup. It will bend that mast every time; happened on my 92 LX I had in the day. Pretty sweet setup Honda uses-- my 91 Prelude had it, too. I wonder if those relays would be the same?? There are a GRIP of those Ludes with OEM spoilers...

Alright here is what i've taken pictures of...

I happen to have a spare accord laying around so i ran out and took a picture of where the outter bolts go on the trunk lid. I didnt know these little indentations existed until AFTER i had already measured and drilled... Had i known about them beforehand, would have been alittle bit easier.

here is the passanger side installed bolt

                  Drivers side

The center one is alittle more difficult, as honda wasnt nice and left us an indention there, at least none that I could see... so you'll have to do some measuring once you have your spoiler. What I did was put alittle grease around the threaded outter edge and sat the spoiler down on the trunk, which left a mark of where to drill. Ghetto way I know, but it works. You'll also have to do something simmilar for the hole for the wires for the LED. BE SURE to seal around the wires or it WILL leak. I used some calking my dad had lying around...

The plug I used to plug in the spoiler was a random plug I found behind the trunk liner right beside/above the drivers side tail light. The black wire on that plug is obviously ground, and the other wire I used was I believe the green one, top row. Guess and check here, i used a volt meter to find it. Works just as it should, only lights up the LED when the brakes are applied. Its NOT the red one, it didnt work.

I ran the wires along the stock harness, will probably make it better when it gets warmer....

And here is the installed product.

                  And a side view.

I hope this was helpful at least alittle bit... I'll see if i can get pics of the relay for you sometime later.

Okay. I got my spoiler today and it makes a little more sense... There are only 2 wires coming form the spoiler (green, black). I thought there were more, maybe for the relay that lowers the mast. I guess the relay is not connected to the spoiler in any way at all. Running it to the light makes sense now. Cool.
